What I was saying about elder homes is this:

All retirement homes are private.
Retirement homes have largely been spared the devastation visited upon LTCs.
Some LTCs are government-run.
All LTCs, regardless of how they are run have had horrendous outbreaks.

This tells you that whether or not an institution is private or government-run has no bearing in and of itself as to its predisposition to negative health outcomes of residents.

"Government knows best" is just as foolish as "business knows best".

Our numbers might also be lower if our borders were closed about a year ago, but that's "racist" so here we are.

If these kids are interacting only with and amongst themselves then they can all go ahead and catch whatever viruses or bacteria they want, for all I care.

One day it's SARS, the next it's chlamydia. All part of growing up!

Yeah Trudeau thought it was racist to stop flights from China. He had no problem slapping a ban on UK flights last month.

Here we are a year later and we are STILL dealing with Covid infected flights from around the world. Biden has wasted no time banning international flights.

They go and pollute the rest of the community, and then go and visit mom and dad for laundry and leftovers.

I'm not smart enough nor know enough about the LTC business to assess which model is better, but corporations are in it because there is profit in it. Whether or not they could maintain an acceptable level of return with tighter regulations would remain to be seen. I do favour not-for-profit corporations, however. An alternative model might be an industry-regulated and funded model. It's done in a number of areas, such as the Electrical Safety Authority, TSSA, TICO, etc. How well it would translate into this type of industry is unknown.

At best, governments love to make regulations - they're generally not big on regulating (unless if you owe them PST - go ahead, have a business and get in arrears). Voluntary compliance is always the goal, but pre-announced inspections, 'scathing' reports and repeated warnings, certainly in the middle of a crisis, is not oversight. If they had decent regulatory oversight during normal times, perhaps we wouldn't be where we are today.

His policies as premier and him being CEO of a for-profit LTC company have led to deaths of thousands of innocent people.

They also tend to "pollute" the rest of the community with the aforementioned chlamydia and the like but that's never lead to any serious censure.

And as I said, "if they're only socialising with and amongst themselves".....

Never mind the fact that if mum and dad want to let the little disease vector in to do laundry it's entirely on them.

Hey, if our federal government wasn't so stuck on virtue signalling, those same innocent lives (I'm sure some of them were bastards though) might also have been spared for a time.

...only to die a year later of whatever else ails them.

But yeah, Harris is a bit of a douche.
