"A deal with Canada and Mexico for AstraZeneca doses would not affect the U.S. vaccination timeline because that vaccine is not yet approved for use in the U.S."
Cooke said the group did not find that the vaccine causes clotting, though it could not rule out definitively a link to a rare blood clotting disorder, of which seven cases have been reported out of several million doses given. She said the benefits of using the vaccine outweighed the risk.
Well it's about damn time. From what I have read, these 4 million doses have been sitting in large storage tanks in a warehouse for six weeks awaiting approval from FDA for the Astrazeneca vaccine. They are in what they call a "fill-ready" state where all that is left to do is to turn on the machines that move the serum from the storage tanks and into the little vials, which are then packed and shipped out immediately. They could have done this six weeks ago for us. The really scandalous part of all this is that it has further backed up the Astrazeneca production chain. They have another facility in the US which has all the raw materials to make 3 million more doses of the vaccine on site, but all they would be able to do is send it to the above mentioned plant that puts it in the vials, but their storage tanks are full awaiting somewhere to send that first batch of the vaccine, so the production plant workers were laid off/reassigned to other jobs, and the equipment has sat idle. Basically six weeks of vaccine production and injections was simply lost to time for.... apparently nothing gained at all.The United States plans to send roughly 4 million doses of AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine that it is not using to Mexico and Canada in loan deals with the two countries, an administration official told Reuters on Thursday.
Mexico will receive 2.5 million doses of the vaccine and Canada is to receive 1.5 million doses, the official said.
That's those born on or before 1946.With vaccine supplies increasing, age thresholds are being lowered.
Starting Monday, anyone 75 and over can book a COVID-19 vaccination appointment on the Ontario government’s online portal, says Premier Doug Ford.
That’s because more than half of the province’s 650,000 people aged 80 and older have had at least one of their two shots.
“We’re moving like greased lightning, we’re kicking butt out there,” insisted Ford, who has come under fire from those impatient with the pace of Ontario’s vaccine rollout.
More than 7,200 Ontarians have died from COVID-19 since the virus struck one year ago.
Ontarians aged 75 and older can start scheduling COVID-19 vaccine appointments through the province's booking portal on Monday.
Adults 75 and older were set to become eligible by the first week of April but Premier Doug Ford says the province's immunization effort is ahead of schedule.
Officials say more than 50 per cent of Ontario residents aged 80 and older have now received at least one vaccine dose.
A pilot program offering vaccines in some pharmacies is also expanding and will now offer the Oxford-AstraZeneca shot to anyone aged 60 and older.
The pharmacy project previously only offered the shot to those aged 60 to 64 but the government says it is expanding after new guidelines deemed the shot safe for those 65 and older.
The number of participating pharmacies is also doubling to 700 over the next two weeks.
If that happens, can we assume the number of new cases should be greatly dropping well before that date? Could Canada Day events be "uncancelled" ?Aggressive new vaccination goal: all Ontarians to have at least their first dose by June 20.
