One problem, Amilcar said, may be that the trains are too sensitive to power surges, adding that more investigation is necessary.
This is Ottawa's problem plain and simple, it's not representative of all of Canada.I swear European rail manufacturers don't understand how brutal our weather is here in Canada. The winterization of vehicles seems to be subpar.

The Confederation Line is by far the most screwed up line in the country, and it doesnt come close at this point.
Should have stuck with Bombardier. But now it's the same company. How ironicMany of the issues are due to Alstom. This is one of them. Their pantographs cant handle even a slight spring freeze. The wheel issues are another.
If you think we won't see these problems on the Finch line as well, I have some magic beans to sell you.
Great idea, but what decade would those cars have show up in considering all the issues with TTC and ION?? If TTC was allow to do Transit City as plan, lines would be built with no cars for them.Should have stuck with Bombardier. But now it's the same company. How ironic
They figured it out eventually and building them in Kingston helped. I'm sure they could have squeezed them in.Great idea, but what decade would those cars have show up in considering all the issues with TTC and ION?? Really when Kingston was doing ION and Edmonton cars? Kingston was to built 20+ cars for TTC to the point they only built 7 to handle ION and Edmonton cars. They figured it out eventually and building them in Kingston helped. I'm sure they could have squeezed them in.
But there is also the Quebec plant that they could have brought online.Really when Kingston was doing ION and Edmonton cars? Kingston was to built 20+ cars for TTC to the point they only built 7 to handle ION and Edmonton cars.
Putting all the eggs in one basket is only asking for trouble and only have to look at TTC late deliveries and miss dates to see it.
Ottawa Line would had end up opening almost a year later than it did which was already over a year late going with BBD.
If Ford hadn't cancel Transit City in 2010, the Sheppard Line would be in place by 2014 with no cars for it. Only 2 of the 510 cars were new cars when the line open on Aug 29 when it was to be 18 in the first place.
Also it was Metrolink going by timelines that include two lines that weren't being bult anymore. Bombardier was smart to hold off on them because there was no where for them to be delivered too unless Metrolink had some field somewhere that they wanted them delivered too. I never believed the crap that they made up to get it of the deal which ended up costing them and us more them it should have all because they were dumb and didn't have a plan at all.Great idea, but what decade would those cars have show up in considering all the issues with TTC and ION?? It's likely that if required additional cars could have been made in Kingston which would have sped up deliveries. And moving Eglinton cars to Ottawa since they have just been sitting around for two years would have given more cars quicker. Also it was Metrolink going by timelines that include two lines that weren't being bult anymore. Except Ottawa wasn't a Metrolinx projet and unlike with Waterloo they didn't take a deal with Metrolinx to provide the cars for them. Waterloo when they decided to take the order expected that they would get them after Toronto already had them on at least one line which would have been the Scarborough rt replacement one if city council hadn't canceled it.And moving Eglinton cars to Ottawa since they have just been sitting around for two years would have given more cars quicker.
You are missing the point. It's likely that if required additional cars could have been made in Kingston which would have sped up deliveries. And moving Eglinton cars to Ottawa since they have just been sitting around for two years would have given more cars quicker.
Considering that they build 200 of them for the TTC gave them experience to work out the kinks.
Hopefully the Finch cars will have been retrofitted to avoid the problems experienced in Ottawa.
However I feel that it's more of a management and maintenance issue combined with either complacency, stupidity or outright incompetence that has led to the issues they have experienced.
