There isn’t the need. Plenty of good potential corridors — I believe you can get down to less than 500 acres of needed or sterilized land if my memory of an AAMDC corridor study is correct.

The big question is Red Deer. If you skirt on the west side, you can build an optimal for Red Deer station which would share a bus loop with Red Deer college/polytechnic. Otherwise full bypasses would mean a park and ride and or dedicated bus route to connect Red Deer.

Why is building a bridge “insane” ?
Not to put words in mouth of @Silence&Motion , but I took that comment to insinuate the irony of massive, multi-billion dollar sprawl-inducing highway infrastructure under construction - that locks in several more decades of car dependence and excessive energy use, carbon output and low-efficiency land use - all in a backdrop of escalating climate disaster caused by the very thing we are investing in.

Such an highway investment could be deemed “insane”; especially in a world where we have 100s of public meetings and endless studies for trivial things like bike lanes, green lines, and other less expensive & more climate-friendly infrastructure.

it’s a cool looking bridge though!
