This thread is going the way of the St. Lawrence market thread where kkgg7 took such umbrage at the fact that dog meat was not available at the butchers that he began to construct a kneejerk anti-Western moral relativist argument that would have put him in the same camp as people who defend Sharia Law.

Now he's back! And he wants our attention! "Lois! Ma! Ma! Mum! Mum! Mummy! Mummy! Mama! Mama! Mom! Mom! Ma! Ma! Mummy! Mum! Mum!..."

This is a shame because I was really enjoying the intellectual debate between RC8 and Tewder about the social construction of sexuality.
 
they are similar in the sense that it is fine to do in moderate amount (both gambling and eating) and lead to problems if done excessively, which is why I think banning casinos because gambling too much is bad is as ridiculous as banning eating because eating too much makes one fat and unhealthy.

Where is the logic flaw here? Enlighten me.

so if it is not something people will die without, it should be banned? What kind logic is that. You don't get to tell people what they can or can't do.
Casinos themselves have nothing to do with so called "social problems". There are problems only when people do it excessively. But what don't bring problems if done excessively?

Of course Rob Ford should attend Pride but he won't!

Just like last year, Dalton will be taking a pass on the Pride Parade and once again he will get a free pass (has he ever attended? :confused:)

McGuinty couldn't fit the Pride Parade into his busy schedule last year but soon after he turned up at every "Bollywood" event (remember that extravagant waste of taxpayer money?) and, later that summer, McGuilty even found time to ride in the crime-ridden Caribana Parade! :mad:

Now some will say that McGuinty is the Premier of Ontario so he is "not expected" at the Pride Parade.

If the Governor of New York , Andrew Cuomo, can attend the NYC gay pride parade why can't the Premier of Ontario attend the Toronto Pride parade? :confused:

The answer is simple. The voter demographics in Ontario have changed greatly in recent years and will continue to change (for the worst IMO :mad: )

Increasingly, the electorate is made up of people who come from cultures that are intolerant to gays - some of these cultures even consider homosexuality a "crime" punishable by death :mad:

This change in demographics is - IMO - the main reason why Ford was elected. If Smitherman was not gay would he have lost to Ford? ( I ask this as someone who voted for Ford and who to this day does not regret NOT voting for Slitherman)

The times have changed.

The days when we could see even conservative politicians like Mel Lastman attending (and reveling in!) the Pride Parade are long past.

The new reality means that Politicians of EVERY STRIPE will avoid gay pride like the plague (has Andrea ever taken part in a pride parade? :confused:)

Huh, what? I think Pride is fine, and have been to it several times myself, but I definitely don't think the city as a whole should necessarily have to be forced to embrace Pride.

And personally, I find it a bit strange that some Pride supporters are constantly whining that someone, who has already indicated he doesn't want to go, won't go to Pride. Invite him, sure. If he politely declines, then just deal with it and move on.

McGuinty may not have attended the parade last year, but he did attend other pride events last year. Good grief, there's you-tube video of him at one:

As far as I know McGuinty has attended the parade in previous years.

I'd suggest reading a real newspaper, and not trying to spread this anti-gay hatred that those at the Sun write.

The flaw is that people 'need' to eat, they don't need to gamble. Done. One is a door that has to be opened, the other isn't.

... and i'm not saying I'm against gambling (necessarily) but let's not kid ourselves that we aren't inviting in all kinds of unwanted problems by opening this door, no matter what the revenue benefits to our government are.

I don't doubt that McGuinty has attended one of the many low-key pride events that get scant coverage but what excuse does he have for not attending the main event - the Pride Parade :confused:

Why didn't he attend last year :confused:

Has he ever - as premier - attended the parade :confused:

If he has attended Pride in the past why is he avoiding it now like the plague :confused:

Could you stop with the over-populated friggin' smilies? And trying to defend Ford by saying 'see, other people are dicks, too?' If you want to start a 'McGuinty not to attend Pride (again)' thread, knock yourself out. But don't try to defend Ford by shifting the blame -- he still needs to attend Pride, Caribana, and the Santa Claus parade, rather than just the Santa parade. He's the friggin' Mayor.

I think you're confusing "the city as a whole should embrace pride" with 'we should Clockwork Orange everyone into being pro-LGBT'. I'm talking about overall statistical trends in our population shifting toward greater acceptance, not every single individual human having to believe the same thing.
 
McGuinty has been in the parade, no? And does the Premier of Canada's most populous Province really have an obligation (or the time) to attend every major community event throughout the Province? I'm not sure how realistic that is. Would that be part of his job description such as it is for the Mayor of this city?
