Toronto Star report detail of Omar's surrender:

"At the time of the shooting, paid duty Toronto police officers were employed at the club. Narine said officcrs were removed from this assignment "almost immediately after" the shooting and the ensuing investigation."

CP24 also says paid duty cancelled for "nightclub events"..

At both Muzik and HoL 5 paid duty officers outside of clubs in each shooting. What do they do, crowd control/parking enforcement? Do paid duties get regular cop benefits if wounded or worse?

it's also strange how it went from 2 guns/shooters to just this one guy. from an article from december 2014...
More than 10 shots were fired from two guns outside the club, police said. One nearby house had a window damaged by bullets.

"Whatever took place over here continued even with the officers' presence," said Supt. Shaun Narine.

The victim might have been a bystander, police said.

No arrests were made and police are looking for multiple suspects.

He was wearing a large "Doug Ford for mayor" badge directly underneath the other one he was wearing.

One thing can be said about him: re his tax-cheat blather, he really knows how to use that Ford Nation "I'm not perfect, are you?" those-who-live-in-glass-houses tactic...

ETA: Anyone here know what the 3rd button (below Ford) says? I have not found a photo with sufficient resolution (for me, anyway) to be able to read it.

North Etobicoke is undeveloped, but look at who is councillor. My in-laws live in Ward 3 and they are in a nice area, but their church is in Ward 2, not far from the infamous Steak Queen.

Ya, Tory really flies under the radar. I wonder if people are relieved or bored and miss the excitement Ford brought.

Most people are glad to not have the circus, but the media misses their daily story.

From a reporters perspective, this is very true. Now, from the perspective of someone who wants click bait or newspaper sales, attitudes might be different.

ETA: The name of "angry yelling guy" is probably Earl Cowan.

What 'people" in particular? The "know nothings", the "regular people" who don't much follow politics anyway, or those who have some inkling about who Tory is and some sense of his history?

Where Ford put on a freak show possibly to distract us from their Deco dealings and other attempts to further their platform (subways, casinos, law and order, etc) Tory knows that his connections to the ConParty and the corporate world want him to be the kinder, gentler face of politics. He plays for Privileged Elites, not the Lumpen crowd the Fords played to. Both of them tip their hats to charity, but any real action to mend the vast inequities in this city is beyond them.
