Any other tidbits?

They're working on another abuse of power story where competition was shut out of some bidding process in favour of some associates of the Fords.

Donovan described Ford as a child who never grew up. And some nurse scolded him for judging Ford and lacking sympathy.

Or maybe there's no story there? So Ford enjoys the company of escorts. Is that illegal? What if he and Renata have an open relationship? Is that something that needs to be reported for the good of the city?

This. And it becomes everyone's issue when/if this behavior compromises the office of Mayor.

When a sitting mayor commented on his wife the way he did on camera, and then having to schedule a presser and drag along Renata as an "apology" you bet this is something that needs to be reported for the good of the city.

Also: Keep in mind how Ford himself would react if this behavior were coming from a political enemy, or for that matter, any convenient target he could pick on if he saw the least profit in doing so. Don't make the mistake of granting him courtesies he wouldn't dream of extending to other people. It's precisely that sort of so-called "high-mindedness" that's got us in this mess to begin with.

Donovan was just talking about the murder rant video. He danced around the question of who RoFo was going to poke his eyes out, and rip his throat out, speculating that the intended victim could be MacIntyre, Blair, even him.
He definitely knows a lot more than he is saying.

I passed on a tidbit from these pages to KD regarding the beatdown video. Recall; in the video someone mentions "after the byelection". A poster here mentioned that Jack Layton's seat was filled just a couple of days before Scott MacIntyre's prison beating. I passed that on to KD and his reply seemed to be one of surprise. I also mentioned the "80 year old bird" line blurted out by Ford himself. Mother Ford was 78 at the time of the probable recording....

Indeed. Remember how Ford wanted to fire that city employee who was photographed with his head on his desk (photographed by Mammo, of course)? Ford wanted to fire that guy's manager, too. Two jobs lost over that horrible transgression. Meanwhile Ford, after all the crap he's pulled, is still technically the mayor...

What is his deal, do you think? Is he just a freelance jackass/nutcase or is he doing and saying these things to advance someone else's interests?

i'm increasingly inclined to believe he's a nut. i mean genuinely suffering from a genuine psychiatric illness, nut just 'a character.'

i also think, for what it's worth, that he's badly in debt and essentially unemployable except at city hall, so he'll latch his apple-wagon onto anything that looks like a winner with the alacrity of a drowning man.

Like it or not, (and some people are not comfortable with this idea) there are standards of behaviour that we need to maintain in order to function as some kind of civil society. Otherwise, we'd spend all day just throw feces at one another...

very much agree - but i also think we need to stop being so damned canadian and start enforcing those standards. everyone from the council to the courts to the media have been incredibly canadian about the whole thing, clucking their tongues and wringing their hands and hoping that ford will spontaneously develop a huge bourgeois conscience and feel terribly about breaking the rules.

dammit, we need to break out the hammers and put him back in line. smack him like an errant pet and tell him that this is how we do things in civil society.

Latest Forum poll from this morning's Star:

Chow - 34%
Ford - 27%
Tory - 24%

As usual he dominates with the youngest, most uneducated voters. Good news is that 58% said Ford should resign, and the overall results confirm that without new support, it will be difficult for him to win.

A) Forum Poll.
B) "The methodology favoured by Forum has also favoured what it considers to be the more typical actual voter — older, male, suburban plus more likely to be reached via landline — even though the results are then weighted against the overall population." (http://o.canada.com/news/forum-research-rob-ford-brandon-souris).
C) Forum Poll.

Well said. Our system was never designed for someone as egregious as Rob Ford and it showed. I do not espouse smaking an errant pet however - and I doubt his worship will feel any smacks given the amount of, err, padding he got.
