I'm thinking this whole business of Doug stepping in is to try to maintain Ford brand awareness. Plus, they don't want to let Tory cruise for five months. How ridiculous to suggest it's so important a Ford be at City Hall that bylaws should be amended lol.

The City of Toronto Act, not City by-laws, governs. Only the Ont. Legislature can change the Act.

Council could pass a resolution to say that X will be appointed after Y resigns - wouldn't have a legal obligation to comply with that promise but it would work within the existing framework.

And needless to say it would be monumentally stupid of them to go along with this hare-brained scheme.

Yep, but the whole thing is just a test for Tory. Doug has zero desire to serve Ward 2. Checking the brassness of Tory's balls, that's another story.

If Tory refuses, they get to say Tory doesn't care about the people of Ward 2. If he does go along with it, then they show the world that Tory's their bitch. It's another Fordian win-win set up.

Tory would be smart to write off Ward 2 - (edit: Never mind - just forget that one misguided Ward).

I'm gaining a grudging respect for Tory( differing ideologies- similar ford feelings) Aĺl he need say on the matter us that like himself, douggie would need to step away from any conflicting business dealings. Should shut him up.

Ya, "conflicts of interests" stop the Fords in their tracks. </facetious>

All he has to say is that the procedures for replacing a councillor are quite clear, that Ford knew the rules when he decided to run for council, and that he won't be pushing for any changes to those procedures.

The hard thing about this whole Fofam Spectacle is that it's not tied to a single media type. That makes it hard to describe. If it were only in print, it might be a cartoon, marketed by newspaper stories. If only on the small screen, a Reality TV show or sitcom.

With this populist "demand" to MayoTory, the disused Ward 2 local government infrastructure (aka Ford's office) is being converted into an infotainment workshop.

<insert popcorn>
As foul as the stench would be on the ground, The Return of DoFo is a horror movie that too many will want to watch -- from a distance. You know you wanna see it. You just don't want it to happen.

The WTF Show continues.

It's gob -smacking beyond .belief that he didn't know about the costs of the subway. The cost of everything and subways subways subways are cornerstones of his own political career, fer chrissakes! You'd think he'd take an interest.

Hiding behind the minions or saying he wasn't told evidently means he wasn't asking any questions of his own at the time.

Rob being Rob, he's been saying the overruns were kept secret (i.e., he didn't know & therefore wasn't responsible) AND that he knew all along because he 'heard things' and had inside info. He doesn't do a good job of balancing the 'it's not my fault, we've been lied to' and the 'I know the truth' sides of being a populist, does he?

Hold on now ... Ward 2 is just as entitled to good representation from the city politic as any other group of Tronnians. I'd bet the revival of interest in the Woodbine Live is a deliberate move to shaft the Fords in their own backyard. Rob royally screwed up any possibility that developers would seriously put time & effort into Ward 2 and AFAIK Doug didn't make any effort. Whether or not the Woodbine Live Sequel needs a casino to succeed (and it probably does to attract investment) is part of the issue. But when Rob botched up Woodbine Disaster, he potentially lost thousands of jobs for Ward 2, which has continued to suffer declining local jobs during the Ford era. If Tory can get serious development to happen on the WL soybean field, it will be a very smart move on his part politically for him and it would also be a giant great FU to the Fords. Plus it would benefit one of the 'third city' regions of Toronto - people in Ward 2 are well aware that Mississauga is booming on the other side of Hwy 27.

Ford will take credit for it anyway, just like he takes credit for things started under David Miller.

Actually Ward 2 is entitled for whom they voted for - and I highly doubt local residents, taken as a whole (whom suspended their judgement again the last election in spite of the clear depravity of their representative) would give credit to Tory even if he ended up bringing Woodbine Live to fruition - recall this?

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news...full-credit-for-woodbine-live/article1378916/

Steve Diamond, a developer and lawyer who represented Woodbine in its dealings with the city, says that says he does not recall ever having had a one-on-one meeting with Mr. Ford.

"I never dealt much with Rob Ford on the issue," he says. Though Mr. Ford was "helpful and supportive," he says, "I don't believe it is fair to suggest he was the single catalyst for the project."

Yet Mr. Ford persistently suggests just that. When I asked him whether it was really fair to say that he "landed" the deal, he said: "Absolutely. I was the one who was instrumental in bringing things together."

When his rival for the mayoralty, Rocco Rossi, suggested at a recent debate that Etobicoke councillor Suzan Hall was just as influential, Mr. Ford said: "She had nothing to do with it. I was the one doing all the leg work."

That came as news to Ms. Hall, who says she did plenty, including serving on a local committee looking at job creation. "Why lie about me?" she says. "I don't know why he feels he needs to denigrate others to promote himself."

Don't want to be the laughing stock of Toronto? Stop re-electing that scandalous crack-smoking lying bag of scum.

The whole of Northwest Toronto has undue influence over Council as witnessed by the total number of electors in Wards1,2,3,7,8,9,10,11 and 12 having 314,856 vs say the Old City Wards 19,20,21,22,27,28 with 317,048
It is somewhat difficult to justify 9 wards with a smaller total electorate vs 6 wards...
