Looks like some digging is going on.

Nice photo with the Royal York in the background like that. Kind of hits home as to how much has happened in front of this old girl in the past decade. Dramatic changes! ..and more to come.

Hate to date myself, but I remember when this hotel was by far, the tallest building on the skyline. It was the dominant building on the skyline for a long time too. To see it now..

Granny, you do realize you could have edited your last comment, instead of making a new one :p
You must really be a granny if you can remember the Royal York being the dominant building in our skyline!

re. 18 york

Dead of winter must be the best time to dig. look how far they've gotten in a couple of weeks.

I take it they're finding old docks as well, like the developments across the street did.

Anyone else surprised that this is going ahead?

Kind of but again this is only a mid rise 26 storey office building,Even in this uncertain economy and Toronto being the financial engine of this country you will probably see a couple more of the 20-30 story range buildings built throughout the next couple of years. Its the 50-80 storey office buildings that we may not see for a while.

The footprint for this building looks really big. Any idea how long (wide?) this building's going to be? Hope it's not a slab in the making.

Thanks. Hard to tell the exact dimensions from the render but it gives me an idea.

Here is a pic of the excavation taken yesterday from an interesting vantage point.
