Ok, chatting with AHS. The location will be east of the Kay clinic in the parking lot south of the blood service. My contact said expect lots of glass. Should twin well with Kay and taller. My contact also mentioned that Red Deer would top out at 2bil fully built out. Also SW is so dead he doesn't expect to see it in his time.
For goodness sake the last major hospital built here was over 30 years ago. There will be an election in a few years so hopefully the SW hospital or something similar will be announced then or soon after that.

I know there's few details out yet, but how much space would a move from UofA to the new building free up for the non-childrens hospital? How many beds does the Stollery have right now?

And don't forgot the Mazankowski still has the 7th and 8th floors that are not being used other than for a bit of storage. Once Stollery is built, if we use the existing space well we could have the equivalent of a new hospital in terms of beds. I would still rather have the SW hospital too since our city is growing fast.

Correct me if I'm wrong - but doesn't the Kaye Clinic (Edmonton Clinic) have unused floors as well? Could have sworn I saw unfinished, dusty concrete floors on my way to the 7th floor last week.

You might be mixing that up with the number of kids beds in the new hospital. The current Stollery space has about 180 beds, but for adults that would be closer to 150 beds. Still, a welcome addition of more adult beds in the system.
Not quite a new hospital, but if those beds could be immediately converted to beds for adults that would be helpful.

Of course, construction hasn't even started, so this is really many years off and the funding would have to be there too, which is something I wonder about given all the other empty space already mentioned here.

Also, it is quite the trek from the south to the U of A, so it still would be better to put a new hospital in more proximity to a growing area.

As much I despise Smitty - they will announce a new Stollery in the new year - this isn't news and it will be at the U of A. So we will have the new Stollery worth - my guess - $2.5B + the new NAIT trades building will start in '25 - worth - my guess - $450M + student housing. So just out pure necessity - Smitty will give some bucks to YEG starting next year. I'm also surmising Ben Stelter's proton facility ($120M) will be built in the Stollery.

Yes she will indicate that with the Stollery moving the MacKenzie will have more adult space available and we will not need a new hospital. The Neurosurgical unit is taking a large chuck of the existing hospital as well. so we lose some acute care beds.
Kaye clinic was supposed to get the Neuro unit but that was quashed. But based on the way they are funding hospitals you will get a building but not fitting it out.

Stollery planning is well underway. My AHS contact was indicating functional planning was being completed.

The blood donor clinic is moving to whitemud crossing
Good grief, they keep on calling for donors but are doing nothing to make it convenient. They haven't done a downtown mobile clinic since before COVID. They don't value donor's time. It's like an hour travel time at their current location and at least an hour at the clinic. Now they want to move farther south and away from LRT?

Agreed. I was a frequent donor until they chose to move all the way down there. I've made sure to communicate that to any real person I can every time I'm contacted about it. No consideration for anyone on the northside at all. I have O- blood but I guess because it comes from the northside they don't want my tainted donation.

And we must not forget Red Deer is going to be our back up hospital. It looks like the full build out may be 2B.
Wait?! So Ol' Smitty was serious when she alluded to that? Gee, now I despise her 10X than from 1 min ago. I guess her flat earth supporters need a shiny new hospital with ZERO wait times. While her educated non-supporters......never mind.

Here is a story I bet no one knows. After working with 100's of ex-RCMP members over my career - I learned that the ERT team (RCMP SWAT team) in Red Deer is exponentially busier than the 1 in each YEG and YYC. Why you may ask? Cause Smitty's flat-earthers are more prone to gun violence and the pig farmers in Central AB are a nasty, gun-toting bunch of Neanderthals'.
