No the Mizz was operational when the General was still in use the South Tower at the General is about the same age as the Mizz. . Grey Nuns was the newer one. However there was talk of expanding the General back in the 80s.. There was enough land they had.

My sister and I were born at Edmonton General in early-mid 80s while my brother was born in the newly opened Grey Nuns hospital in 88. I imagine they moved acute care from Edmonton General to Grey Nuns that year.

Are you sure it wasn’t the Misericordia that replaced the general?
Given that the Misericordia was built in the late 1960's and the Edmonton General operations were not reduced until the late 1980's or after (around the time the Grey Nuns opened), I don't think the dates quite line up for that.

Other than the next phase of Red Deer and Stollery I have not heard of any Hospital predesign happening.

La Crete only had one bidder.

Red Deer second phase RFP to be decided this summer. The only reason I can see them announcing another hospital is to deflect from the current goings on. Money for Stollery will be announced but only enough to move to the next phase. I have not seen any RFP for it.

Hospitals are very complex to build and require a lot of planning. We’ll be lucky to see shovels in the ground by 2027, even if it’s full steam ahead.
There also doesn't seem to be much urgency at the political level, more like slow speed ahead.

I imagine it would be a big factor.
Have you been to LaCrete. But yah this has a long hike up. And finding trades that are willing to go will be rough. I did a project just south on 697. Trades were a mix of Farm boys, Small time contractors and people from Edmonton and GP. A lot of stuff need to be reworked after each inspection.
The drive is between 7 and 8 hour from Edmonton.

At least HWY 88 is a real smooth drive up now since it was paved a few years back.

I was briefly on a project up just NE of La Crete and worked with a bunch of local subtrades. Unless you’re fluent in low German prepare to be treated like a total outsider. Nice folks and very industrious but it’s a strange place unlike anywhere I’ve been in Canada.
