Those "gaps" you are referring to are mainly parks or at the very least should be.

I don't share your enthusiasm with getting Toronto looking picture perfect from a postcard. I'm sure Houston looks pretty darn good too from a postcard but anyone who's been there knows it's a sorry excuse for a "city"

Your positive attitude is fine in my books though :)

One more thing ... Toronto will never look perfect from the lake - we really are a N/S city - you need a postcard from there to really appreciate us.

Yeah... so true .... Some people like it, others hate it

I (personally) would have liked a city more attached/bonded with the lake (no matter HOW DIRTY it is :D lol).... Like Chicago for example... It does both... It extends along L. Michigan and goes a little further out... I would like to see a line of skyscrapers line the lake... that would be cool but hek.. we're T.O.!

Couldn't agree with you more on that Houston comment! :)

HOLY CRAP!!!!!

The Toronto skyline looks AWESOME!!!!!... I still see all those skyline photos from the same angle that were taken 3 years ago STILL being used!!!!!

It pisses me off when news channels use older skyline photos in their broadcasts... The skyline IS gettin filled and jam packed!!!

Festival tower will fill in some more gaps! and Parade will look sweet! Trump will make the CBD SOOO dense!

**Toronto's waterfront does need some work... There are hardly any buildings that line the waterfront leaving too many open gaps :( (Especially near the Rogers Centre)

anyways... GREAT SHOTS!

Our own backyard, when I send this stuff out to international investors they are truly wowed :D

Have you been there ? :D

I'm not one to lay down such hard criticism without first hand knowledge.

And I say that only because pictures don't do it justice ... you really need to walk the streets to know what I mean.

Yeah. Toronto's skyline is stretching out like Manhattan.
Almost impossible to get a good skyline shot of a complete Manhattan unless you do it from a great distance. You usually see shots of Midtown or Lower Manhattan separately. It's too big to encompass.
Toronto is getting kind of like that. I like it!

Looking at our skyline, it becomes quite obvious that most of those buildings are residential, as opposed to commercial. I think Toronto needs more office sky-rises that spread outside the YUS loop (e.g. new RBC building) .

Not really ...

We have a lot of these *non-res* buildings in the north/south stretch of our city.

Also, a lot of the offices to the west are low-rise ... which is nice.

Only an archiporn wraith like you would care, though.

Didn't I see Renzo the other day retouching the grass at Canoe Landing?

Ahh, the fun never stops...The only difference between our chosen tablets is that my archiporn attempts to canvass what is going on globally while yours only seems to navel gaze at this backwater burg. That's fine though, just as long as you stop quoting your sources as if the words were your own.

But frankly, such canvassing can easily collapse into airhead wannabe twerpsville in the end. Like, to really *understand* the inherent salt-of-the-earth sexiness of New York or London or Paris or Bilbao or even Dubai, you need to embrace their inner backwater-burgdom. Otherwise, like so many tourist types, you'd look all the more provincial in treating these places as devoid of the provincial...

Personally I'd like to see that gap by Rogers Centre remain as it looks quite impressive when the dome's open at night during a blue jay/argo game.

I think this is one of those rare occasions that you will both get your way... Once 300 Front (plus others) fill in behind Rogers Center, Steveve will get the skyline filler he desires and yyzhyd will get his "open dome" view preserved for a while.

:D

No doubt. These places, Dubai included, are, after all, living, breathing cities and deserve to be treated as such. It's a bit of a stretch however, to expect a magazine whose mission is to present, as best they can, what's going on in the architectural world today to feature the lesser-known aspects of such places when new buildings/spaces/places are going up around the globe. I know that sounds somewhat ignorant, but it just seems natural - a 2009 issue of Motor Trend or some such rag isn't going to feature the 1983 Mustang II unless there was a specific reason for doing so. Canadian/Torontonian firms are often featured in Record et al, and are completely deserving of the recognition - I however, take issue with the notion that Toronto is the be all, end all of the architectural world, something which has been debated ad nauseam in several different threads lately.
