Expo Vintage Clothing at 1978 Dundas St W (the article had quoted the wrong address) will be closing at the end of October as the property has been operating without a valid business license approved by the city. They plan to transition the space into a takeout pizza joint in the short time and then into a permanent restaurant, bar and concert venue later on:

I like Expo quite a bit, but they have a store just a few blocks to the east from there, and the new business sounds like it will be a better fit for the space.

At least we still have the Bovine Sex Club?

Meh. It lost its soul once the LiveNation suits took over 10 years ago.

I just noticed that at The Tenor building (10 Dundas St. E), Freedom Mobile, Blaze Pizza and Wine Rack have all closed on the street level along Dundas near Victoria.
Blaze has shuttered most of its Canadian locations. The Wine Rack has closed many downtown stores, including Corktown, St. Lawrence, and Regent Park.

I feel like the owners of the Tenor have been aiming for a pretty aggressive re-alignment of that building's offerings, so I'd guess this is the latest part of those changes, especially since it's all of the street level stores along Dundas, rather than them organically closing 1 by 1. Related to that, I'd guess Winners is also almost certainly gone from the Tenor when their lease runs out (which is probably why they opened a store in the Eaton Centre).

As an aside, I've been told that this specific Wine Rack was a nightmare for shoplifting and security incidents (as in most likely the worst location across the chain), so that one closing isn't at all a surprise. Honestly surprised it didn't happen sooner. Given the location it was probably one of those "high risk, high reward" situations.

I can't imagine the LCBO at the Atrium is any better in that regard.

I used to go there a few years ago; they often had a policeman instead of a security guard in late afternoons. But this is common. There is a staff member I know well at the Manulife LCBO, and one day I saw her washing the floor; a man had taken off with a bunch of bottles after relieving himself all over the floor. And the other day, a disturbed man talking loudly to himself followed me in, quickly walked around the store, knocked over a bottle of gin, and then just left (without stealing anything this time).

When I was a wee lad of only 20 years I worked at the Pickle Barrel atrium and saw first hand how bad the atrium LCBO can be.

I once saw someone who appeared to have some level of issue try and fight the police there. That went over as well as you would imagine.

The Atrium LCBO has better exit control than many other locations simply because of its layout. You really can’t exit very easily without going through the cashiers. I have seen theft at other locations but never at that one, despite much of the clientele.

As for the Dundas/Victoria corner of 10 Dundas East, that would be an attractive location for a large fast casual restaurant, especially with the TMU expansion and the additional residents moving in just to the east.
