the cycle track looks great, I'm glad we actually have a proper segregated lane in this city.

Yet how many automobile drivers have driven onto the Queensway streetcar right-of-way? Could be the open ballasts in the right-of-way?

Would cobblestones or even grass prevent this?

Maybe as a last resort, soft sand or gravel? Like they use for stop runaway trucks, or in this case runaway cars?

A stop arm may not be sufficient. Vehicles have been know to crash through such arms. Better would be to add a retractable bollard that will descend out of the way for transit vehicles. Maybe, using flexible bollard just in case.

The bad news would be that it would cost money, so it will not be done. Signs maybe enough, since everyone obeys signs. Ha!

Exactly! The problem probably arises because people coming south on York can (currently) only turn west and those wanting to go east see streetcar tracks and think that is the road. When QQE returns to two directions next spring it ought to be far clearer - even for the terminally bewildered.
 
Could they not just put up a chainlink fence with signage on it so that drivers don't even see the "lane"?

The final topcoat of asphalt paving for Queens Quay is scheduled for Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28. Paving crews will work block-by-block starting at the entrance to the York Ramp Parkette (just east of York Street) and will work west to the east side of the Peter Slip Bridge. The remaining sections of topcoat asphalt roadwork will occur next spring.

Yes, on the sections not getting their final coats today. (On the leg west from Bay (or Yonge) to just east of York and the sections west of the Peter Slip bridge.) Work is still going on in these areas and I do not think they have even got their new concrete base or first coats of asphalt yet.
