Wow. Yeah right hehe. I've been hearing that sweet song from people who have come and long gone from that 'nabe' for the past 15 or so years.
If it wasn't for all the vehicular traffic shortcutting their way to somewhere else the tumbleweeds would be blowing down those streets.
But you do have a point. That is the neighbourhood of the future.
Always has been and always will be.

The neighbourhood didn't exist fifteen years ago. It was just SteamWhistle, ACC and the SkyDome. In the last ten years there have been multiple condo's housing thousands of people, a second financial district, a major tourist attraction. What you're saying only makes sense if ou haven't seen it in fifteen years. Do yourself a favour and in the summertime take a seat by Roundhouse Park and look at what's around you. You will notice many tourists enjoying the locomotives, coming from a Jays game to get a pint of local beer. People coming from the CN Tower and then getting in line for the aquarium. Even food trucks are setting up camp. Its because people are STAYING in the Southcore, not trying to go to a different neighbourhood. Add a couple thousand new jobs from PWC, Bremner, MLSE, Sunlife, RBC and whoever wants to go into the future tower north of Ice and then you'll see more permanent destination businesse around. Right off the bat I know I'm going to go to the new whisky bar at Delta. I bet you haven't even been there lately.

I thought Steamwhistle was nuts when they put their brewery in the Roundhouse -- 1999! -- but by the time we went to see The Railway Children in 2011 it was already a great success. With the Aquarium and the 'Jurassic Park' craziness, this is definitely an amazing new part of the city. It opens up the SkyDome to the south as well, which was never its most successful face, as well as providing a great square for the ACC. Delta made a great decision to develop this hotel, and it's going to be great for adding to the foot traffic in the area on weekends.

Why is the zipper not lit up? I figured now that it is open, the lights would be on but they weren't today. Is that light feature only for special occasions?

Great pictures everyone!
Anyone have any more information about the art piece?
It almost looks like there are grates at its base and I was just imagining how cool it would look as a waterfall type water feature in the summer

looks pretty nice. Its nice to see that it looks modern but comfortable on the inside. Colourful interior design, and accessible in the sense that it doesn't look like it only caters to 1% of the population. Great views all around as well.
The building itself looks really good too. Hope the light feature is fully functioning soon, will really help to brighten things up during this grey part of the year.

I like that aspect about it as well. It looks inviting from the street, unlike the Four Seasons' cold and anonymous podium.

Except that Four Seasons is located in an area with a far more interesting urban fabric such that a cold, anonymous podium (though use the word "mystique" instead) isn't nearly as bad as an "interesting" lobby in a cold, anonymous district.

AoD

How is it a cold, anonymous district when it's anchored by two major sports complexes, contains a convention centre, an aquarium and the city's most iconic structure, is tied to the main transportation hub, has a unique heritage park and is on many people's walk down to the water?
