I have more sympathetic words for the building's architecture and massing as a whole, I was commenting on the ground floor interior. I don't think my words are harsh, I think the space is harsh!
The vendors are meant to be the focus here, and the pictures dont show the open middle section with glass roof that provides a nice view of st lawrence hall. it should be a pleasant space, especially with the side doors open in the summer

I've walked by when they have the big garage doors open, and I actually think that when that happens, the space is quite nice and well-suited for its purpose. But there are touches that are just terrible, like the drab paint job on the exposed vents, and the shoddy "bumpers" on the concrete pillars.

I recently was at the Pompidou, and it's true that Rogers would be aghast at how they messed up a bunch of small things that are so easy to get right. Speaking of which, the exposed vents at the Pompidou are like 7 times bigger than the ones here. I'd forgotten how big they are. They should have gone bigger and bolder here too.

That courtroom looks really quite good - better than expected.

I note that BlogTO has posted that they got special advance info on this news and that it has 'since been shared with the general public"

They said "This statement first provided to blogTO has since been shared with the general public alongside some breathtaking imagery that offers a first look inside the mostly-completed structure." See: https://www.blogto.com/real-estate-toronto/2025/01/toronto-glimpse-inside-128m-landmark/

Jack Landau (the author) used to post on UT and I suspect he saw this news here and really should give UT credit. (BTW Though I just found it the other day and posted it here yesterday, I am told that the info has been on City website for week or so. BlogTO really is getting worse!

Since it looks like a prison and an auto repair shop (which is it?) now, I hope folks don't mind I still like this building....outside of painting the vents grey instead of red, that is.

It's prison-chic or prisoncore architecture. I think it's kind of cool.

When there are people in the market downstairs, the garage doors are open, and City workers are popping in and out of offices that line the atrium, I think it will give a very different and lovely vibe.

I’m curious what the weekday ground floor activity will be like. They can’t put anything permanent on the ground floor. Will there be stackable chairs and foldable tables that are set up and stored on the weekends. Who will be hanging out on the ground floor and what will they be doing? Will there be food carts set up daily? Maybe an extra farmers market day or two? I just can’t imagine how this space will be used Monday-Friday. Assuming they don’t want any sound or smell disruptions to the official space above when a courtroom door is open.

Will it be used as an emergency shelter at night?

It will be like the old building (and the tent) where the City would be overjoyed to rent it on weekdays but gets no takers. One day there is supposed to be a coffee shop on south west corner but I have no idea if they had time (ha, ha) to find a tenant.
