Well, the project does seem (and I emphasize the word seems) to have too many stakeholders. I am sure it will be worth it given the centrality of the site, but that cost extra time and money.

The architect has already said that the proposal cannot be value-engineered further (it was in a previous staff report) - I think the city should consider adding/raising additional s37 funding and have the community raise some of the funds in order to keep the ball rolling. Let's put it this way - with densification of the core, SLC can only be used more intensely than it is now. That said, the city report need to highlight the fact that the city has done its' fiduciary duties and covered all the bases.

The tender call (to pre-qualified bidders) is finally out for the Temporary North Market (to go up on parking lot south of the South Market.) It closes on 19 August and they are supposed to get it up in 16 weeks which means early 2015. Progress?

Description: Construction of North St. Lawrence Market Temporary Structure at 125 The Esplanade, Toronto.
Bids are invited from Pre-qualified bidders only, for Construction of North St. Lawrence Market Temporary Structure at 125 The Esplanade, Toronto, all in accordance with the provisions and specifications contained in the Request for Tender (RFT) and the City of Toronto's Procurement Policies, the Price Schedule Form(s), and the City of Toronto Fair Wage Policy and Labour Trades Contractual Obligations in the Construction Industry

Anybody know what is going on with this project?
The contract for the temporary North Market (to go on the parking lot just south of the South market) will be awarded by the Bid Committee on 29 October. This temporary structure is supposed to be completed by April 2015 at which point the weekly farmers and antiques markets will move and the archaeological investigation of the current North Market site can start in earnest. Demolition and excavation will likely start in late summer 2015 and the building will open in 2017.

That's great news, thanks for sharing !

Or Snorth Market, for short.

Apparently the parking lot between Market Wharf and the South Market is now closed. So work on moving the North Market to its new temporary location may be starting.
Yes, as promised at the public meeting last week the parking lot is closed and they are starting to prepare for the erection of the "Temporary North Market that is south of the South Market" - TMNSSM for short! (It is supposed to be ready for the farmers etc to move by March or April 2015 and will need connections to City services like sewer, water, Hydro etc.)

Yes, they have removed the little hut that was there and now the area is roped off, so it's finally starting.

Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere in the thread, but what will become of the temporary market site after this project is completed? Will it go back to being surface parking?
