For a new station they would but with the station operating throughout and it still being a construction site it is more of a soft opening than a grand opening.

Still, there should be something more than nothing. It's not like they're going to close it & reopen it again. Maybe an official ribbon cut or whatever when everything is done but even a public announcement wouldn't be out of place. Even something to warn people that the doors will be opening on the opposite side & don't use the old platform if you're going up the Finch side. But nothing, online or even twitter. I, as a member of the general public, only know because I read it here & that shouldn't be...

No service from Union to St Andrew stations on TTC's Line 1 this weekend

This weekend, on Saturday, August 16 and Sunday, August 17, there will be no service between Union and St Andrew stations as TTC crews prepare for the opening of the Union Subway Station second platform on Monday, August 18. Customers heading to Union Station must travel south from Bloor-Yonge Station or walk from St Andrew Station. A Wheel-Trans service will be available for customers requiring an accessible connection.
On Monday, the new second platform will open, changing the way customers navigate Union Subway Station. New signage will indicate which platform serves the University Line Northbound to Downsview and which serves the Yonge Line Northbound to Finch. To board your train, you will need to take the proper stairwell. Customer service staff will be on-hand to offer assistance.
The new station design provides easier access to the PATH, which can be accessed using the West by-pass or the re-opened East by-pass through Brookfield Place.
The TTC will hold a "Meet the Manager" session at Union Station on Monday from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. to celebrate the opening of the new Second Platform, assist customers, and answer questions related to the project. This important phase marks the next milestone in a project designed to increase capacity, improve accessibility, and ease passenger circulation at Canada's busiest transit hub.
The total cost of the Union Station Second Platform and Concourse Improvements Project is $137.5 million and is fully funded by the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario, and the City of Toronto through Waterfront Toronto.

Just noticed that above the new(so far un-opened) east doors to the subway from the moat have a new sign. "Northbound to FINCH". Presumably in anticipation of the new platform opening.

The new terminology is Line 1 and Line 2. This should say:
It does seem that Yonge-Unviersities Line is less confusing the Line 1.

I love how the new tiles mimic the old brick look of Union Station itself lending it some grandeur and composed elegance. When you pull into the station, you'll know you've arrived at Union.

Too bad the partition they will be putting up to separate the Downsview bound platform from the Finch bound trains will not have retractable screen doors.
