I was at the AGO today. They still have men’s and women’s bathrooms, in addition to the ‘bathrooms for everyone’. I agree the partitions are too low.

The Lillian Massey Building would make a nice Apple store. 😀

When I win the lottery, I’m turning it into a Raffles or Peninsula hotel.

Unless their product has improved greatly since my time living in Korea, Paris Baguette is about on par with the baked goods at my local ValuMart. Nothing to get excited about. I’m surprised at this prime location. They were EVERYWHERE in Korea, and not at all considered high end.

    VIA Rail

Prior to Covid, there were several morning trains from Kingston to Toronto. I regularly used VIA from Belleville, but the current schedule is useless. There are 9 trains to Toronto most days, but the earliest one departs 11:20am. They’ve just recently reinstated a morning train to Montreal...

I'm not sure if they do this every year, but they have set up an ice rink on the square in the past.

"Holland Park! Holland Park! It's not on the outskirts, either. It's not the edge of Holland Park. This is the rich heartland of Holland Park here". -Absolutely Fabulous-

Not part of the GTA at all. Anyway, of far more interest in Kingston is the Snohetta designed Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts which was just completed.

Toronto non-mall retail (Odds & Ends)

Outside of Japan, Muji stores tend to be small and more expensive. The one I went to in Fukuoka was huge. I was also in a convenience store had a Muji corner with a small selection of their products. Their stores that I went to in Seoul, Busan and Hong Kong were nice, but the selection was...

Ha! I think members of this forum are if anything, overly critical of Toronto and its skyline. Many buildings that are mediocre or forgettable are completely trashed here.

The brickwork on the building with Fido at the base is nice. So many nice older buildings on Yonge hiding behind ugly signs and awful renovations.

In Korea, Lotte Department Store owns the rights to Uniqlo. Some are located within the department stores and some are free standing. They are absolutely everywhere, even in small cities. Other than their flagship stores, none are very exciting design-wise.

There's a piece of the Berlin Wall by a street corner in Seoul. Kind of cool as a piece of public art I suppose, but I don't think it was intended to be a tourist attraction.

Sam's Sign and the Yonge Street Heritage Zeitgeist

I agree that some of the retail along Yonge is crummy, but the old buildings are wonderful. Most of them just need a bit of work and more appropriate signage. Actually, there are some stunning buildings on Yonge. I'm thinking about the one on the corner of Yonge and King. It's beautiful but...
