GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Another day, another UTer writing an unnecessarily rude response.

If work on the TOD towers is a non-starter until the OL is near completion, I wonder what state the site will be in on opening day. It seems like it would be difficult to justify doing the landscape architecture that's been proposed, only to need to tear it up a couple years later.

I lived in Sydney for several years. It's much wealthier than Toronto, and they don't cheap out on projects the way we do (*cough* Line 5 *cough*). They don't have a municipal government in the sense that we North Americans would expect, which has its pros and cons, of course. One such pro is...

Dundas West/ Bloor Mobility Hub +interconnected hub network (Metrolinx)

What's the expected completion date for this connection?

Interesting. There was another poster on the forum who recently mentioned that the Pape station loop would be shut down for much longer, once station construction gets underway.

Alright, we don't need 2 pages about corporate pay inequality. Anyone have any actual updates about Line 5?

Given that Pape station construction wasn't scheduled to begin until 2026, are they planning to just leave the site as rubble for 2 years, or is digging possible before contract execution?

Interesting, thanks. This sounds like less of a specific REM issue then.

This is bad, especially if a train stops on the bridge for a while. Sounds like they need to rework their substations, but then I don't really know how grid failures work.

With testing underway, it's starting to look like even phase 2 of the REM (~50km) will open before line 5 Eglinton. Supposedly this phase, which finally restores the defunct D-M line, will be open before the end of the year.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I connect via the stupid grocery store parking lot method, to line 2. If I have to wait 30 mins for the UPX, I'll take an Uber instead. On my latest trip on Sunday, the airport spur section was so slow and loud. It's always been bad but the train slammed on the brakes a few times and was moving...

That spur has always been terrible and it's hard for me to imagine the UPX could go any more slowly than usual without being stopped completely. Also a brutal way to end the trip to the airport if you're running late for your flight. I wonder if the overall speed issue is due to the spur curve...

I could be mistaken but I think Good Brothers Fruits Market is safe from the current round of demo. That said, once whatever iteration of the 49 story tower is approved gets under construction at Pape/Danforth, they'll have to find a new location.

Sounds like whatever it is, it will be a downgrade from REM. But I'll hope for the best.

Thanks for these. Not surprised that CBC would have way better renders. Their digital platform is the best of any media outlet in the country, and they know what they're doing. Never mind the potato quality from the weak minds at Postmedia/The Gazette.

I don't understand the logic here either. The north side of the block from Eaton, most of the way to Pape is now a barren, derelict stretch. It would have been better to retain businesses along the stretch for as long as possible.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Glad to hear it. Last thing I'll say on this topic is that I don't mean to single out Dan specifically. It is common on the forum however for responses to be condescending or just plain rude and I disagree with that.

I read it. GO may well be moving on the issue, regardless, your response was unnecessarily condescending.

What's with the ascerbic response? It is unreasonable to expect people to be aware of GO's internal policy discussions, as you are insinuating.
