Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

If the RoW put out a RFP with certain requirements, isn't it incumbent on the organizations bidding on the contract to demonstrate that they can meet the requirements? If Presto failed to do that, or didn't bid, I'm pretty sure that disqualifies them from consideration.

Aren't there jurisdictions where the customs officers get on at the stop before the border crossing do the clearing in transit, and then get off at the first stop across the border?

    Ottawa Transit Developments

I don't think there's a clear answer how transit should serve the south-east part of Ottawa. The Trillium Line provides needed service to Carleton, but I don't think it's a good idea to make it the trunk service to the south-east. You then would have the west, south-west and south-east parts of...

If you want good char-broiled burgers, the much, much better spot is Burger Pit on Hwy 11 at Line 10.

    Moose Rail (National Capital Region)

The Alexandra Bridge was originally a rail bridge that connected the Ottawa Station with Hull by way of a tunnel under Wellington. The tunnel was used as space for the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography until it shut down a number of years ago (accessed by a pavilian next to the Chateau...

    Canadian Highway Fantasy Thread

The last I had heard, Noront are moving ahead with plans for the southern route from from the Ring of Fire through Marten Falls down to Nakina. The Marten Falls leadership is very supportive of the plan. On the other hand, I have my doubts that the route through Webequie will ever be built. As...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

Bear with me, I'm trying to make sense of what a bunch of posters were talking about above. In comparing loss due to AC-DC conversion and vice versa, I'm assuming both a hypothetical hydrogen plant and the LRT are receiving AC power from the grid. Hydrail would require AC->DC conversion from...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

As timio noted, there are more roundabouts than you can count in Waterloo Region now, probably well over 50 at this point. They recently opened a pair of three lane roundabouts at Ottawa and Homer Watson/Alpine, which I'm guessing is probably the largest pair in the province now.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

There's finally been some progress on the bridge work on the 401 between Guelph Line and 25 in Milton. The EB lanes have now shifted to the centre while they start working on the south side of the highway.

Rail: Ontario-Quebec High Speed Rail Study

While I doubt very many people in the GTA are connecting in Montreal, I would imagine that a great deal more people from Ottawa and Montreal are connecting to another flight in Toronto.

Subtext is usually lost on the Internet. It wasn't at all obvious to me that your post was in jest.

I'm pretty sure they mean a 4.5db increase, which is about 37% louder.

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

I was referring to drum118's reference to new collector and express lanes at Highway 8, which is in Waterloo Region.

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

AFAIK, there won't be a collector-express configuration through Waterloo Region.

Roads: Highway 7 North Kitchener-Guelph New Freeway Build

Waterloo Region has several of these. The worst and most famous: (9) Erbs Rd-Erb St-Bridgeport Rd-Riverbend Dr-Shirley Ave-Bingemans Centre Drive-Lackner Blvd-Fairway Cres-Idle Creek Dr Post-construction, it will split into two slightly less ridiculous streets: (4 or 5) Erbs Rd-Erb...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

I've always assumed they would just close the King S-401W and 401E-King S ramps, directing that traffic onto the NE and SE ramps of the King St. interchange, opening up space for the 8S-401W and 401E-8N ramps in their place. Isn't there an actual drawing showing the eventual planned interchange...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

I drive this part of the 401 every day. Unless there's some sort of accident, you don't typically see any traffic issues between Franklin in Cambridge and 25 in Milton. Most major slowdowns, even in Milton, are related to lane-changing around interchanges, so I doubt the section between 6 and 25...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

The Queensway Station on the Transitway in Ottawa has bus bays off of the 417. I think they may be closing that station, though, with the second phase of the Confederation Line.

    VIA Rail

Someone with a half-decent bike like that is probably not leaving it on a bike rack in a train like that either. Most bike bags require more disassembly than just wheels. At a bare-minimum, in addition to the wheels, you're also looking at removing the pedals and the handle-bars. I suppose you...
