    LRT Safety

Texting Transit Watch helps. They can't be everywhere all the time but they can dispatch the closest available security or peace officers.

    Capital Line LRT

$375m/km, albeit 90% elevated (short at grade section through undevelopable flood-prone farmland, that'll likely require piles and enough grade to be over the flood level)

ETS Bus and General Transit Improvements

For safety reasons, drivers are not to intervene if passengers don't want to pay for a fare. They could however at their discretion notify security who may send peace officers. Whether the peace officers get there in time to intervene/enforce is probably why they don't bother unless it's a more...

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

There’s a petition circulating to remove the Hermitage bike lanes. It’s a very overbuilt road, they can learn to share. Sigh.

    Yellowhead Trail Upgrades

All the supporting roadwork on 125 Ave from Fort Road to 61 St is complete. That's weird any app would recommend Yellowhead over Henday, Yellowhead is on average 5 minutes slower from Henday to Henday. But if you are interested in sightseeing, lots of performance cars with low profile wheels...

    Yellowhead Trail Upgrades

All three lanes in each direction at Fort Road are fully open at the rail underpass, as well as the shared use path.

I wonder about District 102 as well.

I'm hoping that because the ground floors for the 3rd Ice District Tower is not occupied yet, they're still anticipating building something. Also Stantec Tower was occupied before they topped Sky Residences. I think that kind of counts. I was there! I looked up one day, saw this (not my...

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

It's hard to compete against new and (relatively) affordable. I wonder if it would be a game changer if they added projected transportation costs into mortgage affordability equations. Distance to work, availability of quality transit to work, likeliness of needing multiple vehicles based on...

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

Great points, didn't think about it. I mean I noticed it, I've personally bailed on what was the smoothest ice ever, but figured that was just the way of life around here. Smarter design. So we determined we like buffer zones but it's not without its drawbacks. Raised bike lanes like on 119 Ave...

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

Probably no different from the other protected bike lanes in the city. The buffer might even help to act as snow storage. Oh I just noticed they put the slip lanes in eastbound Hermitage Rd at 50 St and Victoria Trail, although barrier installation is currently short of 40 St. The slip lane is...

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

From what I saw, they decided not to put the summer bicycle lanes back in on Stanley Park Dr (ala Victoria Park Rd) and then they also removed the Beach Ave lane to restore two way vehicular traffic (remember 100 Ave overlooking Victoria Park debacle?) With 40 St and Hermitage Road, they didn't...

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

That's... awful... Heritage Valley just started construction at a cost of $300m/km including the recent cost increase and an OMF. Metro Line is a similar length and it could double to $600m/km and still be $2.7 billion. Is it the tunnel? If it's going to cost them several billion to tunnel...

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

40 St is complete and they’re now working on Hermitage Road eastbound. Turned out better than I imagined. Instant protected bike lanes. A couple of pickup truck owners seemed to be annoyed by the presence of these encumbrances.

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

They'll easily do the maximum 6% grades light rail can go to. The only thing that made me think they weren't going to run the gantry all the way to the grade ramp was the lack of final column directly adjacent to the ramp like they've put in Vancouver (ok more like a concrete pad at that point)

ETS Bus and General Transit Improvements

Translink is losing pandemic era provincial funding at the end of 2025. They're probably going to play chicken and see if the BC NDP government is going to allow a third of Vancouver's transit service to be cut. The West Coast Express commuter rail is only operating at 40% of pre-pandemic...

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

How many changes in vehicular direction does the city think 96 St needs? 😅 Jasper Ave to 102 Ave - NB 102 Ave to 102a Ave - Two way 102a Ave to 103 Ave - SB 103 Ave to 106 Ave - Two way 106 Ave to 107a Ave - NB (new) 107a Ave to 118 Ave - SB (107a Ave to 111 Ave is new) I noticed construction...

I honestly forget that door facing the square exists. I always use the Valley Line facing door.

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

I would've loved to see this full Toward 40 treatment all the way to 137 Ave. Especially where they have that angle parking for the church. 50 St to Belvedere would be nice. Traffic volume on 130 Ave is low so I'm comfortable with riding it but we're trying to get more casual cyclists. 129 Ave...

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

They started this work, line painting looks done it's just a matter of installing the Street Labs style curbs and barriers. https://www.edmonton.ca/sites/default/files/public-files/40-Street-Hermitage-Road-Final-Design.pdf As I am often on this corridor, I am excited to see and use the final...
