Yes, it still is embarassing. I hope their are some significant improvements in the the future.

Black cladding and an implementation of the rotating media tower that was supposed to originally be part of Torch would really work well, IMO.

^ The rotating media tower will never* happen. It was decided by the city that no significant signage could be pointed towards Dundas East because it doesn't belong in the "signage code exception zone" where almost anything goes.

NIMBY's included The Bond Place hotel who didn't want the rotating Torch shining into their rooms.

Most of the signage in Y&D Sq. would have been rejected by the city if it were proposed anywhere else but the area surrounding the square has been granted an exception. East of Victoria isn't part of it.

At least we'll see the exposed concrete covered in red trimming, the torch lit up from within with coloured LED's and a big Citytv sign at the top of the torch facing the square.

*never say never right? Eventually, Y&D Sq.'s über-commercialism will grow in all directions and we might yet see a more dynamic torch element. For the foreseeable future though: no signage pointing East on Dundas past Victoria.

CityTV news at 6 did a decent piece on the history of the Yonge-Dundas area. There were a few too many spinning camera shots but there were some interesting tid-bits along with current and former Mayors gushing over how CityTV will do so many wonderful things for the area.

Edit: Link to piece - http://www.citytv.com/toronto/citynews/news/local/article/56951--citytv-on-the-move-pt-5

At least im not the only one who thinks that spinning camera shots where too much, who ever they hired they should fire or de-promote for that idea.

Anyways, they have been shooting Cityline and Citynews International there for awhile now, with BT now gone from 299 all is left is Citynews and the move is complete.

The rotating media tower would only work if it projected Moses Znaimer's mug 360 degrees. That is, you'd have to place City-TV in a custodial wayback machine...

That video is so badly done it makes me want to live somewhere else.

Watching the parade of mayors in the video, past and present, its a wonder Toronto hasn't ended up like Buffalo, Detroit or Rochester. What a sad and pathetic group. You would think a city this great could produce better leaders.

most of Citytv history CTV took in the divorce:rolleyes:

^ I actually like that. Citytv seems to have returned to their roots: the underdog, starting from a single station reporting news from within the city, with Torontonians as part of the background.

That small single station status will quickly change as they take residence @ Y&D Sq. and Rogers starts releasing their new channel(s) such as the 24 hour CityNews channel and potential music related channels.

I can't wait for Tuesday.

I have nothing concrete to report anymore as my neighbour's stream of info has run dry but one of the ideas that was going around to resolve the view of the Dundas Square garage entrance was a video wall on that blank grey wall on the base of the tower inside the streetcar loop.

It turns out that the producer chose a technical solution: a combination of the lens and aperture setting on the BT camera will make the garage entrance look further, out of focus and overall de-emphasize it.

The video wall is apparently still under consideration but Rogers doesn't have approval from the city for that yet. The idea would be to have a bunch of screens displaying all of Rogers feeds. I think it would look fantastic and would enliven that dark corner.

September 8 would also be the day CTV pops the champagne corks as they would have 299 Queen Street West all to themselves! I can see former CITY TV personalities all partying!!

I don't think the former Citytv personalities are going to party, but CTV would. Its still going to take them time to clear and rebuild the newsroom set for whatever their planing

^ I'm not so sure about that. Having known several Citytv staff through the years, this is one company where everybody loved to be a part of. It was like a family.

When some of the staff, including on air personalities were yanked on to CTV, while they were happy to keep a job, they were sad to be severed from their Citytv family.

Some didn't accept CTV as their new home, submitted their resignation and moved on to CBC, Global or other jobs entirely.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some old Citytv people return there once their contracts with CTV are up.

Would you be happy to move to the network that has a Mulroney as the face of the network? Sheesh! Gives me the creeps!

I was dancing in between Melissa and Nalini in the building last Friday morning so some are definitely happy...I know I was (lol). But seriously, which former CITYtv personalities do you 'think' might jump the CTV ship once their contract is up? Maybe Anne Rohmer but apart from her, I do not see any of the younger personalities on CP24 returning to Citytv as they now have more say on things (versus CITYtv where the power is concentrated with the veterans such as Anne M., Gord, Lara, Pam, etc.).
