This thing is hideous. And the condo tower looks like they originally designed it to be 7 stories but then got a height variation and forgot to erase the roof of the original design.
Maybe it'll look less gross when the windows go in. Maybe not.
The new DUCA offices don't seem any bigger than the old building. If memory serves me correctly, some of the new building's Yonge frontage is available for lease (I'm assuming a DUCA branch will take up most of the ground floor).
I walk by it everyday and I have the exact same thought ... what a waste. And no the space is not bigger at all for Duca ... if I were to guess it's actually smaller ... considering the units on the bottom floor are for lease ... I really hope thing get's replaced with a 15/20 story office building in the near future just like it's neighbor across the street.
It's just Postmodernism. In this case, it's a modernist structure with some historical references and ornamentation. But these precast references look very cheap and off the shelf.
As I've stated several times already in this thread, no, the seniors' tower is not underway and construction won't begin until the new offices fronting Yonge are finished.
