Not sure where you got that info from but as of this moment that's not correct. By the end of the year we would have enough crews to run 15 min service on the Lakeshore or all day(low frequency) service on the other lines but then there wouldn't be anyone to run the Milton line(which we are taking over Jan) and the UPX.
don't you know that on the French RER (the system fashionable in some quarters this year as S-Bahn was last) they sow magic beans to get engineers?

From the talk I've heard most are not ready to retire yet, as in they wouldn't get their full pension if they did. And there's no doubt the company would take them. However, there's little chance the union would accept them holding those jobs. So they would have to be hired on as new employee with no seniority like everyone else. My assumption is that most of them won't accept that.
 
Hmm I didn't know bombardier was taking over Milton. Is GO finally managing to build a better relationship with CP?

Unfortunately not really. Its more that CP would rather just dump the contract as the profit margins aren't anywhere near as great as it is for freight - basically the same as what happen with CN. And GO has a preference for one service provider anyways.

Also we just grabbed about a half dozen of their recently qualified engineers who unlike the conductors of theirs we've been hiring can bypass the CSA position entirely and operate as engineers very shortly. Hopefully more will follow which would expedite service increases or in effect replace the older senior CP crews(16 head-end positions, going up to 20 after the planned near-term expansion to 10 trains) currently running the Milton service. Afterall seems that CP isn't the best place to work these days, because of a certain CEO of course :rolleyes:
There's also talk they might try to implement CP's train operating model for the line(2 crew), not sure of the validity of that i.e if they company is actually pursing it or if someone over here just assumed so and is fear mongering(quite likely).

Seriously, who's he trying to fool? We all know the government, if not Murray then someone else, is the one pulling the strings and telling Metrolinx what to do(perhaps based on their recommendations) and not the other way around. Not sure why hes trying to spin it that way, pretty sure most people approve of the plan.

Pretty sure an average headway of 4.5 second is physically impossible :p

Not going to challenge some of his other suggestions that are perhaps more then just mistakes in wording, since I agree with them anyways for other reasons(EMU's PTC).
 
tbh the 15 minute plan seems largely bureaucrat driven, albeit with some outside influence from FCP. The libs likely would have been happy to continue on with the previous plan.

vegeta, what are the remaining issues on the lines outside of lakeshore that prevent all days service, could you go through them line by line? thanks

No track capacity on the Milton line until the 3rd and 4th track are in place. There are sections with 3 tracks, but only in a few places with CP using them to store equipment on them.

Same issue on the Halton Sub. The section between KW and Georgetown has to be twin as well upgraded.

To go from Aldershot to Hamilton on the LS, need another track as well some major rebuilding of the corridor in a few places depending which route you are going to use.

RH needs another track and upgrading in the Valley as well in CN Corridor. This includes dealing with flooding issues.

New Station for the Spadina Subway Extension at Sheppard.
