Public tolerance for a hard lockdown is way less then Australia.

Canadians are not Americans but we are way into indvidualism then other nations.

A hard lockdown won't work in canada as we still have people traveling into the country freely and have far more community spread.

We would just being on and off lockdowns since April then.

Best we do targeted controls and keep it a manageable level.

Australia is looking to eradicate the virus.

Our goal is to keep deaths minimized.

You are the one calling for complete closure of the border and banning of all travel back in March/April. Please don't use excuses about "public tolerance" and individualism now. Also, Australians are no less individualistic than we are.

It is a significant point though that eradicating the virus in an isolated nation like Australia is plausible, whereas we are in the unfortunate position of sharing a massive border with the United States and having a significant population of snowbirds having little regard for the virus and intending to travel to and from the States at will.

Then clip the wings of the snowbirds - or tell them to stay there and don't come back. I am sick and tired of hearing excuses for special treatment and dispensations putting the lives of our citizens at risk, especially just for some special need of Florida sunshine when the average citizen had to hunker down and cancel travel plans - and if/when they F-up and catch COVID, they are the ones who will suck up the medical resources.

100 students may face sanctions after Western University dorm parties

Sept 29, 2020

Over-the-top partying in residences this weekend could lead to about 100 students facing discipline under the school’s code of conduct, said Chris Alleyne, vice-president of housing and ancillary services, in a statement.

“We are disappointed in the behaviour of some students in residence that required campus community police service attendance Saturday night,” Alleyne said.

Alleyne didn’t provide any other details about the partying or in which residences the misconduct took place.

The residences have been cleaned and sanitized since the incidents, he said.

The students were reportedly partying in university residences Saturday night, the same day that a notorious street bash, known as Fake Homecoming or FoCo, is traditionally held. But this year, amid dire warnings of crackdowns by authorities to guard against the spread of COVID-19, the usually packed street party that has resulted in hospital treatment for many never materialized.
