Boomers? I think we need to start blaming ourselves rather than our grandparents and parents.

The PM and most of the MPs and MPPs across Canada are Gen-X (born 1965-1980) or Millennials (born 1981-1996). For example, the average age of all the MPs in Ottawa is 54. Those in government these past years and today making decisions on Canada's immigration, housing, taxation, infrastructure, rights and freedoms, foreign policy and environmental issues are for the most part Gen-X, not Boomers. Danielle Smith, Premier of Alberta and a thorn in the side of many progressives is 53 years old. Outside of government, who's screwing over Canadians on food prices? 51 year old, Gen-X Galen Weston and his crowd, not Boomers.

You're going to have let your obsession with the Boomers go. By the end of the 2030s most of them will be gone, and even the most ardent boomer blamers will need to look into the mirror and recognize that the middle aged person looking back at them is now responsible for both their own success and the country's.

I think when most people throw out "boomer" as an insult, they're actually thinking of Gen X people, and the tail end of the boomers. Sure the boomer retirees have more time to go to public meetings and complain about plans to build housing, but it's Gen Xers who hold most of the political and economic cards these days. There are vastly more voters aged 45-65 than aged 65+.

True. There are far fewer of us Gen-X than most other generations, mostly thanks to immigration.

I think when most people throw out "boomer" as an insult, they're actually thinking of Gen X people..

That's because there's no witty phrase, and as we age we all become more conservative and less connected with the wants and wishes of the next generation.

I expect in the 2030s when the millennials are running government and corporate Canada, that Gen-Z and Alphas will be bemoaning how the millennials ruined everything. Maybe "Okay Milly" will be the moniker.

Canada is the first G7 country to cut rates, though it's expected the European Union Central Bank will do the same later this week.
Will be interesting to see the market reaction.


EDIT: in the press conference the Governor said about falling inflation that it is "reasonable to expect further cuts, if progress continues."
The market appears to be interpreting this as another cut will come sooner rather than later. The next meetings are: July 24, September 4, October 23, December 11.

It is very dubious to release names of 'suspects' unless there is enough evidence to charge them. Of course, by NOT releasing names ALL MPs are suspects which is equally (or more?) unfair.

Indeed. Considering India and China are two of the named countries involved, any MP of Indian or Chinese descent is now suspect.

I think you're right that that's who much of the public suspect, though there are allegations those countries tried to influence the Conservative leadership race, so I don't think it's actually grounded in fact to suggest that only MPs of Indian or Chinese descent should reasonably be suspected.
