This is

Ford won because in spite of misgivings of his character, that was less important than the certain economic shitshow the NDP would bring. People voted for economic stability over fantasy promises. Even more fantastic than the unicorns, health and education enhancements promised by the now (previous) government.
Oh please. This is exactly the shitty narrative that got the PCs elected. Ford’s economic plan is far more dangerous to the province than the NDP would have been.

Where the NDP failed was in the year before the election when they should have been pushing themselves as a steady hand and preferred alternative.

Perhaps the PC narrative wasn’t that shitty. At least the PC’s professed to care about deficits and the debt, unlike the Liberals and NDP. The Auditor General and the rating agencies didn’t have any skin in this game, other than doing their respective jobs honestly by pointing out the Wynne government’s accounting was a lie and that we have a long-term structural problem with our public finances. Furthermore, the PC’s at least recognized that Ontario is becoming even more uncompetitive with the Midwestern and Southern states. The Liberals bear some responsibility for that problem, due to their several Green Energy plans, Cap and Trade, and workplace legislation on wages and other terms of employment. The NDP gave no indication they had any issues with any of these measures, except to the extent they would have been even more hostile to the private sector had they been the government.

It’s inaccurate to claim Ford’s economic plan will be more dangerous than the NDP’s would have been, because the PC’s never articulated a coherent plan. They did argue that the re-election of a sharply leftward-tilting Liberal Party, or the election of an even more hard-line socialist party would have negative consequences for the economy. That was enough to give them a majority. It was certainly enough for me, in spite of my own misgivings over Ford’s considerable negatives.

There are provincial NDP parties - notably those of Saskatchewan and Manitoba that have managed to run competent governments. In BC and Ontario - I have memories of Bob Rae -there is no such competence or commitment (and perhaps even recognition) of fiscal responsibility.

The difference? Urban intellectuals in Ontario and BC dominate their parties. They have high ideals. Farmers and small business people in smaller provinces believe in similar outcomes, but have both feet on the ground. My grandfather attended Tommy Douglas’ United church in Regina. He was a farmer and an NDP voter. At the same time he was voting for the Roy Romanow government, he thought Bob Rae was a fool and that Ontarians had lost their minds. He used to gore my mother’s ox with that.

According to Wikipedia at this link, Doug Ford "attended" Scarlett Heights Collegiate Institute. No mention that he "graduated", nor if he "attended" nor "graduated" from a college or university. Could someone update the entry in Wikipedia if they have the information?

And he wants to mess with the Physical & Health Education curriculum, if school wasn't that important to him when (or if) he just "attended"?

So they voted for the Doughie and the Common Sense Revolution II; may the gods save us.

How will Doug handle all those big vocabulary and complete sentences inside Queens Park? Maybe he'll be listening to an interpreter using the parliamentary earphones. (Unless it's a sports game on.)

Now, this is interesting... CP2Ford gave a number of ~1,100 and Warmington put the total at "thousands". This event was indeed akin to a Ford Fester when it comes to dubious numbers; they should have had free food and/or booze.

It's very interesting that Doughie's office is not in order to field simple questions; transparency indeed.

Doug Disappoints: Inauguration Draws Dozens, Not Thousands
Doug Ford was officially inaugurated this morning at Queen’s Park, and understandably he wanted to celebrate – and the self-styled populist made sure to invite the public he claims love him.

The public, however, had better things to do.
