The covered streetlights are the least of the problems. I have asked the Project team for a reason but .... It should be noted that the TALL lights (which are working) do not yet have their permanent luminaires, Wellington is supposed to have all LED street lighting but ....

I’m guessing they haven’t finished all the buried conduit work and therefore haven’t pulled all the wires and can’t energize the loads The new traffic lights at Scott and Wellington is not completed yet. Assuming the overhead wiring is still temporary but probably from the final source. Except the streetcar of course.

Yes, probably but I heard a while ago all the lighting conduits were done. No doubt, all will eventually get finished but it really has all taken FAR too long (and cost far too much!)

The response is "The electrical wiring is not yet completed. It will be done in May or June". I note no year was given but, maybe 2023!

One of the improvements coming (eventually!) with the work on Wellington is LED streetlights. I just noticed one at corner of Front & Church.

Request the General Manager, Transportation Services, to consult with the Manager, St Lawrence Market Complex, Corporate Services, St. Lawrence Market Neighbourhood Business Improvement Area, the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association, and other City divisions and stakeholders as identified about the permanent closure of Market Street, between Front Street East and The Esplanade, and to report back to the June 22, 2023 meeting of Toronto and East York Community Council with recommendations regarding closing this section of Market Street permanently.

I thought it was decided in the previous last years motion to have Market St pedestrians only for the full year?

The motion last year only applied to 2022 but did ask for a report on permanent closure (which was never done). The motion this month is to allow the street to be closed this year starting on June 1 and then to get a report on the PERMANENT closure. I assume this will be dealt with before October so the closure would thus continue. The assumption is that there is not time to dot all the is and cross all the ts for a permenent closure before June 1.

^^^This is great news. Market St is going to need some winter programming though. It's pretty dead during the cold, dark months. Muskoka chairs and picnic tables with heat lamps? Hot chocolate stations? Quebec-stye maple syrup in snow? Live music? I hope year-round programming is in the works.

It's all in your point of view. Closure sounds like no one can use it when the point is to open it to non-vehicular uses.
