I'm guessing it's to keep the same C-Values at the lower part of the stands

Good picture showing how steep the upper tier will be - from daviesonfire at the Red Patch Boys Forum

Nice rake!

Wow, that just looks huge from that angle. I can already imagine this place packed to the gills for an NHL Winter Classic. It will be quite the sight when it happens.

Will be something else - that's for sure - here's what it will look like from the top of the new stand

So we'll be giving up the downtown view, but gain a view of the Humber Bay Shores. It should be a good spot to watch all the construction happening down there.

Or the actual game

Thanks for pointing that out.....for a minute there I thought we were gonna have a 30k stadium for watching a once a decade (or so) outdoor hockey game and construction in the west end....good to remember there will be 20+ sawker games there a year.

^that big mirror hovering in the sky will cause some nasty reflections in the eyes of the players....this is a design flaw, surely

Other than the obvious how many seats you can fit in which makes the NHL more money. Could a winter classic not be played in a outdoor tennis arena like york. I cant understand how the viewing can be any good so far from the field in a soccer or football venue.

The entire point of professional sports is to fill a venue. The Winter Classic is extremely profitable and popular, so there would be no reason to play a smaller venue. As for sightlines, I would rather view most games from the nosebleeds, where you have a better scope of the game flow at the cost of detail
