I heard it’s delayed.
I wouldn't have expected them to have started on a Sunday - I'd think it's an all hands-on-deck thing.

But delayed? That must be a nice gig. Or did they reassign the driers for this board (maybe that's where all the extra spare bus drivers came from)?

Just to clarify, I meant to say it looks like it hasn’t started yet. Maybe delayed wasn’t the right word.

They absolutely would have started on a Sunday. To the operators, it would have been just like any other work day - it's just that they're starting their new job locations on that day, or today, or tomorrow. It depends on the shifts that they've signed up for.

However, as APTA-2048 noted the start of the simulated service has been delayed as all of the operators get their refresher training. The simulated service will therefore start in the next couple of weeks once that has been done.

Delayed in the sense that you're not going to be seeing that many cars out on the line right now.

Was it originally the plan for everyone to get refresher training? I heard that they only needed 2 classes worth of operators to start the stimulated service, and therefor it could start as early as March 30th.

Also, are the operators now assigned to work on line 5 officially for this board period, or has that also been called off too?
For the operators refresher training, is it also going to be 30 days per class or will it be a bit faster to speed things along?

I'm surprised - I'd have thought that would have been a recipe for a bad day. Yes, they'd certainly have been in place wherever at the start of their Sunday shift. I just assumed they'd be doing something else other than starting this "shadow" service on a Sunday.

30 days of refresher training? That seems a lot. How many days was their original training?

Why would that be the case? The TTC has started operations for every new board period on Sundays since time immemorial. At most, the biggest clusterf%ck historically has been that they don't always push updates to NextBus right away, and it wreaks havoc with the tracker services until someone realizes the mistake.

Granted, the advance timeframe is not much, but it surely must be less of a headache to be doing operations on a Sunday morning rather than a Monday morning.

the original training classes were 30 days a piece

I think there's a lot of difference between a routine schedule change that's been going on for a hundred years, than the start of operations for a completely brand rail service. It's not the operators I'm thinking here, but given you'd likely want extra staffing, you should want senior management on hand for this one, who'd never be seen on the weekend normally, then why pay the overtime? Waiting a couple of days to deal with admin stuff (refresher training apparently) seems sensible to me.

I think that answers the question of whether the refresher training would be 30 days.

The extension to VMC started on a Sunday December 17, 2017

Funnily enough, now there are stops closer to the Don Valley and DVP than Don Valley station.
It's only a matter of time before that placeholder name gets swapped out for some historically "significant" figure who's been carefully scrubbed clean for modern sensibilities. Maybe Chris "Sankofa" Moise can give it a go?

And yet a short walk from the future Line 5 Renforth station is:

Well, it should have been a short walk.
