Interesting to note that while westbound St. Clair West has been closed to traffic yesterday and today around Avenue Road, streetcars are gliding by unobstructed. The ROW is proving its worth already.

My god, this looks so much nicer without all those ugly electrical wires and the streetcar wires everywhere. This really gets rid of the clutter. I can't wait to see this done all over the downtown neighbourhoods. It's worth the time and money spent.

I firmly agree, but you'll have to hope for some charismatic, revolutionary mayor to be elected for this happen in a reasonable amount of time.

I don't think Miller was the reason things were slow on St.Clair. Sadly voters are attracted to voting for obstacles to progress like Walker and Stintz or nuts like Ford.

TTC Crews were moving their power lines on Sunday in Phase IV area.

New sidewalks have been or in the process of being built under the bridge for the Bradford line. Curb lane is also been rebuilt.

The Water line work is completed at Old Weston Rd, but taking place at the intersection for Weston Rd on Sunday.

Work has started on both sides of Oakwood intersection and looks like the intersection is going to be 2 weeks begin been closed to replace the tracks now. That could start next weekend now.

Sidewalk are now up to Christie St on the north side. The road is waiting concrete based for most of the area between it and Wychwood.

Platform built for westbound at Wychwood.

If it has taken 6 weeks to get this far for the sidewalk and road. There is no way this project will be done this year. That 4 block so far with 12 more to do on the north side alone. This will take us in to September just for the north side.

TTC has stated they plan on running 18-22 streetcars by December.

TTC can Run Streetcars by the fall using no platforms, but will have major impact on constrction doing so as well when they get their platforms.

Photo's to follow.

Thanks for summarizing everything up drum. I looked at St. Clair this weekend, and I wondered what happened! They were making so much progress and fast work, and suddenly they're now crawling ahead. Of course, this is due to the other roadwork that's going on, but I've lost faith in it once again.

I'm interested because a month or two ago they were working on what looked like a really big water main (judging by the amount of water that was flooding out of it) just on the other side of the street of the new water main work that's going on at Keele/Weston. The work that's going on there now looks like it's just as big, but I can't tell exactly, because there's no leak to see how much water's flowing :)

I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere but...

How do the streetcars get the power? How far apart are the electrical leads and where on the cars are they?

The power lines are in the ROW underground and come up various poles to feed the overhead system.

Some where in the thread you will see this a big loop in a few photo's

Shot update video`s of St Clair on May 30 and 31 in both direction from a car.

I even shot Phase V and VI as before construction shots.

TTC Crews can be seen working at relocation of the power lines in phase IV. We can see sidewalks and part of the road been rebuilt at Calendoina Rd and under the bridge.

In Phase II, we can see where sidewalk and road work is at that point. I expected the concrete for the road should be up to Christie St today.

I expect Oakwood intersection close this weekend to be rebuilt it as well install new switches and track work.

All the road concrete has been pour up to Christie St and it has been pave also.
Some road marking are down with the rest to be done over the next few days.
Should be open to traffic by the weekend.

Side walk are being torn up to Alington.

Christis Platform is being built and paver being install for Wychwood.

TTC crew placing rail on the west side of Oakwood and shoiuld be finish by June
9 to start concrete pour. The intersection work has been cancel until late June
or early July for the intersection work.

Other than where the rail is store, the existing tracks and road are dug up with
work starting on the base. Traffic will have to use either Dufferin St or
Oakwood to make an u-turn to go the opposite way from the side streets. There
are 2 cross bridge to allpw people to get from one side to the other in place.

The contractor is looking at the end of October to have major of the work done
if the city doesn't screw things like the current work change.

The Caledonia intersection is to be close this weekend to allow TTC to take
track into phase IV to the west.

Next to no real peak traffic tonight going to Keele St from Vaughan Rd for some
reason.

I just passed through and noticed asphalt with lane markings is now complete on the westbound side to Wychwood. I assume they will move traffic there soon.

Also I swear I saw at Vaughan Rd, for westbound streetcars, a five aspect signal has been installed. I guess for giving an advance left for southbound streetcars and an advance right for Vaughan buses?

I dont know about every citizen, but a least compensate the businesses that have had to put up with this mess for years.

City to angry St. Clair merchants seeking compensation: ‘Good luck’

Joe Mihevc, a local city councillor and vice-chair of the Toronto Transit Commission, rejected any talk of compensation.

“I have a ton of sympathy for what the businesses, and frankly the neighbourhood as well, have had to put with. However, the city will not be able to pay compensation for lost business.’’

If City Hall did pay, every citizen could demand compensation for any renovation the city undertook, Mr. Mihevc said. “I don’t think a lawsuit, or a threat of a lawsuit, is going to gain them anything,” he said.

The project to construct streetcar-only lanes on St. Clair between Yonge and Keele streets was supposed to be completed by the end of 2006, but is now scheduled to be done early next year.

On the stretch of St. Clair between Lansdowne Avenue and Dufferin known as the Corso Italia Business Investment Area, most businesses have lost between 20% and 40% of sales since last year, according to the BIA’s executive director Jeff Gillan.

When I was shooting the photo's over by Joe office, a group of people were bitching to the point one said "we need to go and see Joe to tell him what we think about this mess as it is his baby." A lot more was said.

A few merchants we please to see the finish section and said "it looks great to one of the construction workers."

There are a fair number of stores vancant and let see this project gets blame for it. A number of them would had gone even if this construction wasn't takeing place.

If one look at what some of the business look like before this project started and what they look like now, more up scale and better looking even over in SOS section.

The SOS and the BIA can blame thereself as they cause the delay from day one without the hydro mess.

In some way, some compensation could be given since the City did some feet dragging, but how much is a question mark as well what will it be based on.

From what I seen over the years, very few places saw a lost of income related to construction.

From what I seen over the years, very few places saw a lost of income related to construction.

I saw last night The Rushton was packed, despite being only accesible by a plywood board over a ditch. Nextdoor one of the many dingy old Euro sports bars had gone under. No surprise, it never had more than three people in it. But I'm sure the owners could keep it going indefinetly as they put no money in to the place for at least 15 years. A sign talking about a new restaurant opening soon was on its door. I think this track replacement is just accelerating the inevitable. There's a lot of dingy old bars along St. Clair, which never seem to pull in more than a dozen of their aging regulars. They are going under but are being replaced. Even in the middle of all the work, many new business are opening! That doesn't get talked about. The track replacement work just accelerated the gentrification. The same thing happened on Dundas St.

They lost 20-40 percent business over the past year.

Well, over the past year, two out of the big three automakers went bankrupt, 2 of the 5 largest investment banks disappeared along with countless smaller ones, one of the most famous Canadian companies in the world Nortel went under, the prices of oil droped over 60% from a year ago, and 11% of our workforce is now out of a job.

Sh!t this St.Clair thing did alot of damage.

Why don't they ask for the same deal Sheppard East merchants are getting: a property tax holiday while construction is on.
