She was a paid lobbyist, so I can understand why she promoted this program in the past. However the concerning part is why is she continuing to act like a paid lobbyist now?

Its clearly a bad program, Smith's muddled communication is conflating orphan wells with those owned by companies that can and should be paying for the clean up.

The Premier should have Alberta's best interests in mind, not those of her (past?) benefactors.

The NDP should be hammering this hard.

I saw that the Stollery wants to have its own building and so they are looking to province. They are committed to raising $250M on their own and then want province to put in the rest. That would free up beds for UofA and enhance children's hospital services.

Where would be best Edmonton location for Children's Hospital? Would there be any value in the DT? What about that large chunk of provincial land in Oliver that used to be a hospital? It's close to lrt, too.

We'll need to watch for the substance rather than the flash.

Edmonton (and Alberta as a whole) needs a new SW hospital, about 5-6 new schools, funding for an architecture program at U of A, equalized supportive and shelter spaces with Calg, gov't support for the hydrogen, logistics, manufacturing, AI and video game sectors, a capital city grant for some street cleaning and planting, tourism funding, downtown Revitalization funding and support, opportunity Edmonton fund, support for passenger rail between Edm, and Jasper, Calgary, Grande Prairie and Ft McMurray, expansion of the Art Gallery of Alberta, expansion of citadel, festival support, commuter rail between Edm and St Albert, Sherwood Park, Leduc, Ft. Sask, Spruce, and Airport, second Cancer clinic, Stollery expansion, about 8 new long term care facilities, replacement of Miz, rehabilitation of Alberta Hospital, energy retraining centre for economic transition, appropriate boost to the public service to reflect provincial growth, new courthouse. Many of these things have been overdue for 5-20 yrs.

They want to raise 250M? Question begs, "Why can't all levels of gov't just build a hospital without needing fundraising? A focus group was given 1M last year to "located a site" for a future new Stollery......

Does anybody know if a potential site was identified?

Would be nice to keep it on the same site for convenience with all the other medical offerings in that area. I guess it could be built in conjunction with a new south hospital which will still be accessible by LRT. Downtown is convenient for transit and the central nature of it would be nice but then you aren't likely connected to another health facility, how much that matters for convenience of specialists that might work with both children and adults for example I don't know.

I like the idea of a new Stollery as part of the proposed new hospital south of Ellerslie Road.
Thing is, will the United Calgary Party help pay for it? After all, they're raking in oil revenue and they just received new health care funding from the feds.

Moving the Stollery out would help other departments. The Nuro Surgical Centre wanted a bigger facility but the UCP reduced funding and now they are renovating a portion of the UofA. But the Stollery wing would have been perfect. Though at the current planning and buildout it would be at least 5-10 years before anything happens.
We may here the SW Hospital gets funding for the planning. but not the buildout. Have not heard anything form people I know that are involved with the SW hospital.

  • $6 million over 3 years for the design of a new school in Glenridding Heights."

Nice to see new hospital is getting funding and they are planning for new law courts. Sounds like this Alberta fund could be helpful for some projects that advance in their planning and demonstrate a need for funding earlier.

These were categorized under "Central Alberta" and not in Edmonton. Was unaware that the rinky dink S.Park hospital - that should have been a full scale hospital from Day 1 - was planning an expansion?

Bad news: No funding for Commonwealth Stadium upgrades
Good news: No funding for a new Calgary arena

There is a significant amount of money in the new Alberta Fund used to:

Fund one-time initiatives that do not lead to permanent increases in government spending

Money for arena or other projects could come from this fund at any time, so let's see how the next few months go.
