Is it actually moving forward though? Metrolinx has to agree to it, the funding has to come from somewhere...
Of course they will. Mikey just calls up his uncle and it's done. Doug Ford was a big supporter of the Woodbine Live project. I'd be surprised if this ask got shot down.

Ford is Councillor for Ward 1 (Etobicoke North) and Holyday is Councillor for Ward 2 (Etobicoke Centre). Both Councillors represent the western edge of Toronto. The western extension would be entirely in Ward 1.

An eastern extension to at least the Finch Station on Line 1 would go through Wards 6 and 18. Waiting for Councillors Pasternak and Filion's recommendations.

Don't think that Pasternak and Filion are part of Ford Nation.

The extension east to Yonge is not even being considered, yet the EA has already been done.
East is more complex and expensive as a large part of it would be underground. This will require a lot more work and money than the extension to Woodbine GO.

The west extension is an easy win in that it's about 3KM of track, mostly straight with a wide ROW. I think the biggest challenge is getting to grade from Humber station. This project could probably be handled by the current group doing the Finch LRT or the TTC.

They'll go below grade at Humber College Station, rising upward with a bridge over the Humber River and bulldoze through the parking lots (oh the horrors!) to reach Woodbine GO. It's whether or not to go and stay above grade before or after Rexdale Blvd, that is the question.

Nah the city and/or Metrolinx will find an excuse to bury the entire extension underground and travel under the Humber River thus strapping a rocket to the cost. What should only be a couple hundred million dollars will balloon into a couple of billion because the powers that be have an ungodly obsession with everything needing to be underground.

The eastern extension to Yonge can be done almost entirely at-grade. Might want to go underground at Beecroft, just 200 m before Yonge, and the Yonge LRT station shouldn't be in the middle of the street because of high volume. But the remaining ~ 5.8 km from Keele to Beecroft can run in the street median.

There is another problem though: construction timing. Assuming that Yonge North subway construction will start soon, Yonge Street will become constrained, and getting all the Yonge buses to Finch terminus will become a challenge on its own. One can expect TTC's #53 and #42 shifting from Yonge to Willowdale, and # 60 shitfing from Yonge to Bathurst, for the duration of construction.

If the Finch West LRT construction takes place concurrently with the subway construction, then getting all those buses to the subway terminus will be even more difficult.

But once the subway extension opens, the case for extending Finch LRT to Yonge will become stronger, as it would serve trips along Finch + up Yonge towards RHC.

The other question is where to put any intermediate stops. My first thought was that Rexdale Blvd was the only obvious spot but TTC bus service is actually only at Queen's Plate drive by the north end of the mall.
