I’m encouraged that so many posters think that the selfies and Kardashian crew won’t amount to much in voter support. So now what about the “25% support” factor, visibly Ford Nation or not?

This streak of nastiness is a bit of concern. Yes, AFAIK, about 25% of the population has IQs of less than 90. But correlation doesn’t equal causation.
Yes Chow=notFord and Tory=notChow+notFord(maybe), but that’s not the same thing either.

I’ve always believed that while Toronto has a certain politeness, which includes a slight standoffish-but-sincere quality, the potential for divisive nastiness has been there for a long time. Toronto wants to be New York, is expensive and has just as much attitude as New York; it just displays it differently.

From other peoples’ experiences living in other cities, is this 25% Neanderthal Nasty segment unique to Toronto? Or do you think other cities possess a similar sort of population segment?

sort of agree, but then don peat, who i generally like, has just repeated verbatim Ford's statement about the police on his twitter feed. no comment, no corrections, just a straight transcription. this uncritical shilling has to stop.

I rather doubt that Peat is a shill. It is the realty of Twitter that 140 characters is all you've got at a time. I think that Peat, and others, rely on you to know that they are not endorsing what they are reproducing. That X said Y is a fact. Whether X was lying and Y is crap is a different matter.

There was a debate at City Council about what degree of oversight City Counsel ought to have over Waterfront Toronto. DMW or his ilk brought up the cost of the umbrellas and rocks. under the theme of "Waterfront Toronto running wild" and Robbie and SlumDoug seized on it. (Needless to say, did not bring up the fact that the Feds paid $13 million of the $14 million cost to design and build Sugar Beach.)

he will just say "there is only one taxpayer" yadda yadda. A mayor really has no say in how Provincial and Federal tax dollars are spent, but his supporters appreciate that kind of talk, they eat it up. Didn't he vote against sprinklers (to put out fires) for seniors' homes even though it was all provincial money??

Regarding SA Levy, She always been a very strange one. A lot of the RW you can tell they are either putting on an performance art that they think will be successful, or just a major tool. There is something sadder with Levy, the name calling, the attacking personally of fellow writers, it's like she's trying to hard. I don't really want to play psycho-analyst with her. She sounds like an angry teenager with very low self-confidence more than anything else. I think most others in the media just ignore her even people in her own newspaper. I think Peat once had an online chat and people ask what he thought of SAL and he didn't answer. The people she normally attacks online, if they are anybody of influence I hardly ever see them talk back to her or have a discussion or have anything to say about her. Warmington lost all credibility and comes off as a bit of a tool, but other than Ford issue he seems to be "okay" and he doesn't really attack others, just a lot of "Ford a victim" talk, but Levy is just really kinda depressing reading her stuff.

Racist/Anti-gay among Ford nation, it's pretty rampant I think. If you listen to RW talk radio there seems to be a lot more "men rights" groups out there. Which is pretty much straight white men whining about how they are "victims" and somehow every other group is getting special treatment (which is ironic as I literally can't find a single non-white guy on conservative talk radio) I was listening to CFRB Thursday night show with jewelry store owner turned weekly host Jack Berkovits a couple of weeks ago. He had callers called in and a "former cop" with a very distinct voice (and a regular caller) talked about supporting Ford. He kind of brushes off Ford drug and gang association by saying "As a cop I disagree with who he hangs around with... BUT...." then goes on how Tory isn't a tough enough conservative and wants to plant trees and that Chow (actually he called her Jack wife) will have us speaking Chinese and being socialist during her term. We get a special 2 for 1 racist and sexiest, so proud of the self-proclaimed former "copper"

Speaking of bad CFRB hosts, so I read on twitter Towhey made light of mental illness when he called anti-Ford protesters by calling them crazy or mentally ill. I wonder what CFRB parent company Bell feels about this when they spend a lot of time and money promoting Bell Lets Talk. Do they actually believe in the cause of going against disparaging claims against mental illness or is the company just care about grandstanding once a year. Towhey is seriously one of the biggest tools in this entire saga. I have some begrudging respect for Nick K ability in elections, he seems to be a mercenary plain and simple. Towhey on the other hand is a total tool.

Oh yes. When there are Fed or Prov $ and he does not like it = only one taxpayer. When there are Fed or Prov $ and he likes it = look what I got you! His supporters are "morans".

I’m thinking of a protest sign, something along the lines of:

Rob Ford: Sugar Beach was years ago.
Were you wasted then, or are you wasted now?

I would keep the message short and simple, so that it's easier to read.

Watch the movie Amalie. That is the origin. Amalie, who has a troubled relationship with her father, torments him by stealing his garden gnome and then having a friend carry it around the world and send back photos.

By the way, Amelie is one of several great movies by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Delicatessen and Micmacs are also brilliant.

Mayor Crime Lord ‏@TOMayorFrod
Some candidates are grandstanding on crime in #Toronto. I've given police all the tools they need. And they still haven't busted me. #TOpoli

I going to go with another South Park reference (those guys are so right on the money so often, they had the alcohol is a disease thing before Ford went there) In another episode Cartman was going on about how he believes in 911 and Kyle says it's dumb. Cartman is angry and said "25% of the people believe in it, are you calling a forth of the population dumb" (I am cleaning it up a bit) and Kyle replies "Yes"

After watching that episode it makes me feel better about Ford Nation, it just the way it is. 25% are effin stupid who believe in the dumbest sh*t. It's not about evidence, it's not about convincing. You can't. They believe the moon landing didn't happen, or the sun goes around the earth They either dumb as hell, don't believe in science, or just don't care. Or want to go against logic for the sake of going against logic. Forget about the 25% and focus on the 75%.

It is pointless to try to go after Ford or his nation with facts and logic. They will move the goalposts to whatever suits Ford agenda most. They don't actually stand for anything. Their entire existence is based on negativity. How they are being "screwed" and Ford is the only one who related to them. But in reality he doesn't nothing to benefit them, except feeding their hate. They seem to be mostly f ups in life and see another f up person get to that position kind of inspire them. Not inspire them to be great, just inspire them that it's okay to b a F-up

Thanks for reminding me about Amalie, I did watch that movie once in the theatre, it was pretty good.
