Didn't he make this speech two years ago?

Yep, I think so; just another case of chest thumping to take away from the scandals.

Someone stated early today that Sue Ann stated Staffers left due to pressures from the Star; didn't Ford direct the media to talk to the staff?

"OPEN. ACCOUNTABLE. and TRANSPARENT MANNER."

"I dont want to talk about the three people I hired"

"Specific job titles? Everyone works for the taxpayer"

"Anything else?"

"Anything else?"

"mumble mumble mumble"

"Anything else?"

"That's it, have a good weekend."

The international media attention continues:

Rob Ford resigns!

See this link.

State Senator Robert Ford has resigned from office, even as an ethics case against him proceeds at the State House.

Senate Pro Tem John Courson announced Friday he'd received a letter of resignation from Ford. It is effective immediately.

The news came on day two of an ethics hearing against him. The hearing is to decide if the Charleston Democrat violated ethics laws by using campaign money for personal expenses and failing to report expenses, donations, and personal loans.

During Thursday's hearing, the committee heard claims that Ford spend some of the campaign money at two adult stores. Ford says the items were gag gifts for campaign staffers.

Ford's lawyer says the problems were just sloppy bookkeeping.

Ford did not attend day two of the hearing after he spent the night in the hospital.

Ford's attorney told News19 his client was taken to Palmetto Baptist Hospital in Columbia Thursday night, and was released Friday morning. He adds that doctors treated Ford for cardiovascular problems and high blood pressure.

If senators determine Ford violated the law, the findings could be sent to prosecutors.

Oh sorry, wrong Rob Ford. Never mind.

Tomorrow could be a turning point. The Nathan Phillips Square chalk up and protest has registered 3,500+ attendees so even if 1/5th of them show up, that's 500+ people. Even a crowd of 100 would look like a large crowd on TV. If 1000 or more people show up, a wide shot of the square with a crowd in front of Ford's office demanding that he resign is going to hit a note. Oh the people support you? Who are those people outside? Add to that the contagious chalking up of the square added to by random passers by and we're going to have a loud united voice from Torontonians saying "RESIGN". He may not, but it will keep up the pressure and continue to destroy his populist brand.

Do you honestly think that having a protest in Nathan Phillips Square is going to make Ford resign? He's been headline news across the entire planet for the last couple of weeks and that has done nothing to convince him to step down. What is a protest, in downtown, comprised of those who never supported him, going to do to make him change his mind? Protests in general are a waste of time, but if you guys insist on having one, wouldn't it be better to do it somewhere in Etobicoke or one of the other buroughs? At least that might give the illusion that you guys live there and aren't the typical downtown pinkos that he'd suspect to partake in such an event.

What was that about Dufferin bridge? Which one? Can't see anything else about it.

It's the Dufferin bridge over the Gardiner. It's closing June 12 long-term (18 months IIRC) for repairs/replacement.

You mean it wasn't an important enough story to have instantly been posted to all the local news sites? ;)

Now the African American Rob Ford is noticing his Canadian counterpart.

Now South Carolinans are learning about both Rob Fords.

I'd have though that such plans would have been discussed at some point that the media was already informed, and there would be articles flying around.

Pedestrians too? It's going to be more of a challenge to get to the Ex this year, if that bridge is closed, and the streetcars are not running to Harbourfront.

Edit - 680 news is reporting it will still be open for bikes and pedestrians - http://www.newstalk1010.com/News/localnews/blogentry.aspx?BlogEntryID=10551850 so no impact for Ex.
