Proof that extending the Sheppard subway into Scarborough would full trains?

SOURCE: http://urbantoronto.ca/news/2017/02/growth-watch-2017-north-scarborough

Seems subway stops at Consumers, Victoria Park, Warden, and Kennedy would all be heavily used based on both existing land use and future growth and development.

Can't wait to hear what's in store for Scarborough Centre itself.

Those developments will certainly increase the usage. But that is not quite the same as making the trains full.
They will, though not by much, but feeding all N-S bus routes from Victoria Park to Kennedy (and maybe also Midland), will help. Then when RER comes to Stouffville line, even better.

There is too much chaos along Sheppard Avenue East with cars and buses exiting Don Mills Station and Fairview Mall. They really need to extend the subway east to at least Consumers Road.

The LRT plan has always been that it is in a tunnel under the 404, and daylight near Consumers Road. So that shouldn't be a factor.

But we can't let the facts get in the way of the precious Sheppard Subway.

You want to talk about facts? How about how the 7-stop Sheppard subway extension to Scarborough Centre would cost the same as building the one-stop Bloor-Danforth extension to Scarborough Centre. Which one would benefit the most people, you think?

You actually believe it would cost the same?

I know the Chong/KPMG numbers are a bit dated now ($4.7 billion circa 2013), but it's only 5 kms from Don Mills Stn to Agincourt (most likely tunneled but could be cut-and-cover). The entire section from there to SCC could be above-grade the whole length which would cost significantly less.

This is in sharp contrast to the fully TBM tunneled Bloor-Danforth extension up McCowan Rd that's being proposed.

"A bit dated" is a huge understatement, given the meteoric rise in infrastructure construction costs these past few years.

To put this in perspective, each month we wait, the Scarborough Subway increases in costs by around $10,000,000. 5 years of that would increase the cost by $600,000,000. On top of that, detailed engineering has not been completed for the Sheppard Subway. Completion of this detailed engineering will reveal details that can increase costs anywhere from 0% to 50%, on top of the aforementioned price escalations.
